Juno-G Synth + 2000XL - Need help with MIDI

ok so i just cop'd a Roland Juno-G Synth....I got the MIDI Out on the synth goin to the MIDI IN on the 2000xl, and and MIDI IN on the synth going to the MIDI OUT on the 2000xl....Plus the audio outs going into my mixer

I figured out how to sequence a sound from the synth into the MPC and loop it....but when i want to move on to another sound in the synth....it changes the sound on the loop to whatever sound i select....

anyone know what i need to do, im stuck. thanks in advance.

You have to assign a new midi channel to every different patch you wanna sequence.

on the mixer on the mpc, i have to change the channel? can you get alittle more specific. how do i assign a new midi channel on the mpc?

and patch = each different melody i play on the synth???

If you want to track out different sounds from the synth in the mpc sequence you have to assign them different midi channels. At the bottom of the main screen is where you assign which program or midi channel to use for each track. You should be able to assign different midi channels to the different sounds in your synth. The mpc2000xl can play up to 32 different midi channels at once in a sequence with the two midi outs.

So The MIDI Device1A - 16A right?? when i try to assign a new channel it stilll plays whatever sound i select on the synth in the sequence i recorded...

Yeah, sounds like you got it set up right in the mpc. Now you gotta set up your synth. Check the juno-g manual in the midi section for how to assign your patches(different sounds) to different midi channels. Most midi capable polyphonic synths will allow you to sequence more than one sound set at a time.

dont forget you have to select two things on the MPC for each different sound.

first, a TRACK. second, MIDI channel.

when you record a sound it should look like this.

MPC TRACK 1
MPC MIDI device channel 1a
JUNO TRACK 1


MPC TRACK 2
MPC MIDI device channel 2a
JUNO TRACK 2

and so on....

On the mpc I change the midi channel along with the track and also change the channel on the juno but still have problems.

On the mpc I have:
Active track receive channel: all
Soft thru: as track
Sequence change by program change off

Juno:

Local switch offKbd patch rx/tx channel: I change it to the same channel as the mpc.

When I change to a new /midi/track and change the sound on the keyboard, it also changes the previous track on the mpc to the current one selected on the keyboard.

Any ideas?? The juno-g doesn't have to be in a certain mode does it?

Yes, the Juno should be in "Perform" mode, not "Patch" mode. It's the only way to have access to all 16 midi channels at once for sequencing. Patch mode is for playing one sound. Perform is for layering multiple sounds, keyboard splits, and sequencing. Once you're in Perform mode, you go into "Edit", and you should have access to changing the patch for each "Part". A part represents each of the 16 midi channels. I don't have a Juno, so I'm not sure about the details from there. Roland uses "Perform" and "Patch" mode on all their keyboards and modules. If the Juno is like the other keyboards they've put out, there should be preset Performances and User ones. Pick a User Performance if you edit it and decide you want to save and keep it. Do you have the manual? Other than that, follow what the other guys have been saying...

I got my first Roland module (used XV-5050) last year, and I had to figure this out too. I also have 2 E-mu modules, and they're always in multi-channel mode, so it's easy to navigate. With Rolands, you have to go through a lot of menus, too many in my opinion... They have great sounds, but navigating through their system is kinda confusing at first.
