Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By jakemyth Thu Feb 21, 2008 10:48 pm
Is there anywhere that you can still but the zip drives for the MPC? I have a 2000 classic and the zip is broken and am contemplating buying a later model and doin away with the scsi zip altogether.
I am in Australia and having trouble finding them.
cheers

I'll sell you mine. I'm using a 1000 these days.

If not, eBay.... I picked up a couple over the course of a few years just to have a backup when one fails. That and a stack of zip disks.

I have an internal SCSI zip drive if you are really interested.

He said he's got a 2000 classic - so an internal zip is probably not what he's lookin for, yes?

Yeah it's a classic. I am really wondering if i should just get a new model. I dont wanna be in a situation where i cannot purchase these zip drives any more and the machine is unusable.

Well, I mean you have options with the classic. You can still get an external cd or hd, or if you're up to it (or willing to pay someone else) you can get an internal card reader installed. Do a search and you should come across two in particular that I'm thinkin of - one of which I may do myself for my classic.

But yea, havin an XL, the original XL, is a damn good feelin.

With the MPC all around, I kinda feel the same way about VST that you do about zips. If that company ever goes away, and i need a replacement part for the mpc, I won't be happy.

Thanks. So what options do i have for an external cd or hd?
Do you think these maybe a more viable alternative?

i got a couple of SCSI zip drives from a computer "junk" shop,

this old guy had a small shop with boxes of old cables and computer parts.

It took a bit of digging but I got heaps of scsi cables, a couple of 100 zip drive and a 200 zip drive.
i then got heaps of disks off ebay.

I looked in the paper and in the yellow pages for secondhand computer parts.

Cheers man. I guess thats all i can do just keep looking till i find a zip.
I am willing to put in an external hd though, just need to know which ones suit it?

my friend was just telling me he found a scsi flash card reader online somehwere. if i were in your shoes i'd rather work with that than a cd drive or an external hd.

I find the iomega zips at the goodwill all the time for 5-10 bucks. make sure you get the switchable (channel 5 or 6 selector switch) one.

you will need the scsi to scsi adapter as well.
