Folders on a compact flash

I'm waiting for delivery on a CF drive and thought I'd get a card ready with some samples.

Quick question: I can create folders and subfolders on the card right?

2kxl, yes, format the cf card fat/fat16 on your computer.

Use 1gb partitions for cards over 1gb.

Use filenames, 8 characters or less.

Ha! I knew I should have waited for a reply! Went ahead and started copying files over from 2kxl vol.1 sound library disk and looks like I'm going to have to delete it all.

Checked file system on CF and it says RAW. MPC don't like that huh? Card is 1gb, on right click/format all I get is option for FAT/FAT32. So FAT it is.

When you say filenames do you mean folders? Some of these wavs have longer names than that. wtf?

If you format on pc, fat or fat16, use filenames 8 charaacters or less. if you don't and plave that card in mpc you'll have a big headache to deal with, try it and see what happens, just a few files to see how it acts, it will shorten the names to 8 characters, THEN your programs and songs won't know what to load cause names of files have been changed....the 8 character is for pc formatted cards only.

Use a batch renamer to make it easier for you.

CKRename, google it...

How do I use the .pgm files on the disk then?

Also, having folders that contain 300+ drum hits that have no discernable file names is damn confusing. What are my options?

I'm using the 2kxl sound library that came with the machine. In the folders are .pgm files for all the sounds. Thought I may be able to shortcut and use these. Nevermind. Looks like I got some work to do then.

Import that WHOLE folder to your mpc....

Load the pgm from that folder. Don't separate the sounds in there from the pgm, just import the WHOLE folder to your mpc, load the pgm in that folder...

ckrename should help you with organization a bit.
