mpc 2000xl drive questions...

yeah i've searched this and found no answer... so here goes:

aight, currently in my mpc there is a zip100 drive installed...

i sample into my s1000 and then warp the samples, i haven't figured a way to send the sample to my mpc via midi, and my s1000 has a floppy drive...

i pulled out a floppy drive from an old HP comp, and i'm wondering if it will fit in my mpc...

how hard is it to install this, and will it work? the comp that it was taken from

the computer i use is a macbook pro, so if i recorded a song that i made from the mpc and put it in an ext. floppy drive, usb it to my mac, could i edit and master it in ableton? or would i have to re-format it to mac....

sorry if this sounds like a bunch of mumbo jumbo, i just don't see how this zip drive is helping as i don't have any other zip drives


if there is a way i can get the midi to work on my s1000 and then just SEND the samples to the mpc via midi, i guess i could just buy an ext. zip drive and use that on my mac...

any suggestions?

you can't transfer samples via midi, midi is only used to trigger samples on other machines, it can't transfer sound files. why don't you just sample the sound from the s1000 into your mpc instead of transfering the actually sound file?

actually, I believe you can (midi dump, recieve/transmit), though with the MPC, it will take forever and is not really worth the hassle.

anyways, to the OP, just get a card reader and call it a wrap. Midi is only ever truly useful for controlling external gear. For sample transfer issues, get a cardreader or external hard drive(SCSI).

well, that's why i was thinking of installing this floppy drive, because the s1000 has a floppy, so i could like take a sample from the s1000 and then save it onto the floppy and then load it up on the mpc...

im thikning of doing the MCD mod, but i don't have any money atm so yeah...

and another thing... if i wanted to take drum samples offline or something, say... from my mac... and put it onto an ext floppy drive, saved it to a floppy, and tried to load it onto the mpc, do you think it would work, seeing as mpc is pc format basically...

just some ideas...

yeah that midi thing i see how long it takes for the mpc to retrieve the data and that is just too much of a hastle

What do you mean "what's the point of a Zip drive?"

So you can save thousands of sounds and programs, sequences... you don't need to use it for transfer. Besides, you can't really save that shit on disk and render the song to a .WAV or .MP3 file -- you have to track it live from the MPC anyways. And the MCD conversion would be useless for transferring to the s1000 unless it also had an MCD.
