just wondering if any of the kru here are into making the step seq style beats. eem . insane rolls intricate/tight programming.

tried that to begin with - i found it useful for hats and snares but now i fing it quicker to use the timing correction and bang away on the pads in realtime - im feeling the easyness more!!

I use the step sequence style programming, not for drum beats so much, but for backgrounds.

I use it for programming tight fast sequences..
heres a tip...Hold down the rec button while in the main screen and punch the pads...this way you can program step edits from the main menu......I also use a good book by Johnny Rabb called Jungle Drum and bass for the live acoustic set....it has TONS of ill drum patterns and its easy to read if you have the standard knowledge of drums, bars, notes, and such(which i hope all of you should)..it even comes with 2 cds of audio examples......trust me, if you are looking for that drum and bass/jungle/breakbeat/squarepusher type style of programming then this book will become your new friend...this book breaks it all down and is mad deep and easy to read and you can easily program the patterns into the mpc in minutes....no more having to cut up breaks, no more having to search cryptic dnb forums trying to figure shit out, ....its all here......

Hey that's a great suggestion! You rule. Not only have I been using the arrow keys, but the book sounds tight. I think we're on the same page with the programming aspect. It's good to plug in the numeros.

this is why the mpc is the best sequencer ever. Thats how ive always done my drums. just lay down the snares on the 2 and 4, then freestyle the kick, and note repeat the hihat (unless you want to get funky) beat in .02 seconds.

This works good too if you have to step in a sliced sample, or if you want to make a sequence fit the loop real quick. If you want to overdub a snare over another use this too=except press overdub, i thought everybody knew this?!!!!! and this is why i hate other sequencers.

good lookin homie. That shit is cool. Look in the production techniques thread in the stickeyed production tips post. I posted a book that is like what swiss is talkin bout, but its for hip hop beats.

Holy crap!....I didn't realize you could do that! That makes things much easier and it sounds real nice with some filter sweeps from the mfc42.
