SCSI Hard Drive and MPC2000 (not XL)

i bought an mpc2000 and it turns out the SCSI fuse had blown. just got it back after 5 weeks yesterday and still can't get my hard drive to format. it looks like the initial problem has been fixed as now the MPC2K recognizes the external drive but I get "SCSI write error" when i go to format it.
it's a 18gb seagate HD, i know the 2000 can only use 1gb of it but i can't even get it to do that! are they just incompatible? SCSI4samplers.com (righteous dude) says it might just be too big, but wasn't sure.
any 2000 users out there have similiar issue? how d'you get over it.

It is very well possible that this harddisk is too big to be used with an mpc2000. I had a similar problem with a 36 GB harddisk and my 2000xl. Solution: bought a 4.5GB drive and that works like a dream.

I think you need to only format 1 partition at a time, I got a 1 gig hard drive and when I tried to format partitions A-N at once it didn't do it, so I formatted each partition on its' own and it works fine. Does it show the partitions of the drive when you look in the disk screen?

yeah it shows the pertitions but the lowest it goes down to is A-R, then up from there A-S, A-T etc....

What?? That sucks! The MPC should be able to accept any size of drive?
By the way - SCSI Interfacing with harddrives - any of you know what SCSI Interfaces will the MPC accept? 1, 2 or 3? What about "Fast" SCSI Interface?
