Configuring my 8-Outs Board

alright, i have searched and searched and read the manual 5 times...

i am looking at it right now...

I have the 8-outs board, and everything is plugged in

If you look at page 131 of the MPC 2XL manual, it shows this pic:



I can't get my mpc to do the 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 2 i can only get it to do 1/2 3/4 5/6 7/8 on any of em... the red ones are the ones i can't get it to show, the green ones are the ones i can get it to show, on my mpc....

my friend says that it has something to do with the samples i am using...

i am using stereo samples, does it matter wether or not my samples are stereo or mono?

are the individual outs mono or stereo?

your friend is correct.


Your samples are stereo
therefore they require two mono channels = 1/2

I think you can convert/copy the samples to mono by splitting the left and right into separate samples in TRIM.

I usually prepare my samples in Cool Edit first so I can mix down a sample rather than splitting it.

I'm kinda new too the mpc and i mess with samples in cool edit.
why would u split them into mono ? whats the advantage ?

I don't do all my samples in Mono. Alot of times I will do the my main sample in Stereo and then do all my one shots and layers in Mono and drum breaks I do in stereo also.

I use mono samples because the trim screen display is mono but mainly because of this issue of tracking out of the 8outs. It depends on how many samples I am using and what they sound like.

Also If you are using a floppy disk, mono files are half the size.

Instead of having to convert all your samples to mono, a quick way around this is to assign two stereo samples to the same outs i.e. 1/2 and then pan them all the way left and all the way right (respectively) in the mixer screen, it saves lots of time.
