pc to zip-zip to mpc (help please!)

I have this connection going right now: The mpc is connected to the zip and the other port on the zip is connected via a usb-scsi converter to the mpc.

It seems that only one can operate at a time or I get weird errors on either machine (mpc cant read files, or computer doesnt pick up on the device being connected, etc..).


It would be nice if i could get this working because i sample drum loops and its such a pain in the ass to copy the loops to a floppy everytime i make a minor change..

Did you mean that the zip is connected to a COMPUTER via a USB-SCSI converter? What you have there is two SCSI masters on the chain, which can be tough to make work. Not only that but it is rather dangerous to your zip disks. If you write to the disk from the MPC, then the computer no longer has an accurate picture of the data on the zip disk. So if you then try to do anything to the zip disk from the computer (write it or even copy from it), the computer can either write over data you just saved or read from the wrong sectors when copying.

It can be done but you have to be very careful and know what you are doing at all times. Most sampler manufacturers advise against even trying it.

haha, great. Thanks for telling me that. I think I already screwed up one disk. I guess the only way to transfer data quickly and efficiently from the comp to the mpc then is with the new mpcs?

Many people are using SCSI card reader drives on the MPC side and a USB card reader on the computer side. Makes it very easy!
