Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

storage

what type of ways are you loadin up/storing your sounds for the mpc 2000 xl? zip disk? cd rom? because i got so many sounds on these disk, an i feel like any day they wont be able to be read because i might scratch them, i wanna try a different route, but i cant seem to fid any zip disk, that way seems the most safe, but i dunno. what you guys usin?

2kxl internal mcd, intenal mcd on my pc as well. PC for storage of sample library.
CF formatted on pc, fat/fat16.

dam lamp, thats a good way to organize everything. you don’t have any storage or samples on hardware tho? any body else do it differently?

an what kind of card reader is it? you got it hooked into your mpc, or do you have it plugged with it?

I believe Lampdog has an internal ATAPI card reader in his MPC. You can go with an internal ATAPI (if you can find one) or get an external SCSI card reader drive (we sell those). We also have USB card readers like what Lampdog mentioned as well.

I jumped on the internal atapi mcd drives a LONG time ago when they were plentiful in the world, lol.

I also have an internal mcd IN (that's why it's internal) my computer (I just said all this).

I have my sample library on pc hard drive (I said this already). :lol:

I got my Microtech PCD-25 SCSI card reader three years ago off of eBay for $32.
Now they go for 4x that much. :shock:

I use an external SCSI harddrive connected to the MPC2kxl, I have 9gb of storage.
when I save a beat I make a folder containing an ALL and APS folder.
In the all folder I put all the ALL file and altered ALL files which I give ascending names to still being able to extract any older sequences.
Same for APS files...

I also use the internal mcd drive but I only recently installed this. It's a really nice upgrade if you're used to using zip discs for everything!

I got my kit from mpc-stuff and they are a bit pricey, but it is worth it. You can get the cards a lot cheaper from elswhere so bare that in mind if you go that route.

Plus there are lots of threads on here to guide you through the installation if you need it. :wink:

I also have an external scsi 9gb drive, lol. BUT, I save each project/song within it's OWN folder for better organization. Honestly though, I haven't used it for a long while, and it's still almost new. I use the computer for storage now.

Yea that's what I meant :
BEAT FOLDER >
APS FOLDER > All Pgms + Snds
ALL FOLDER > All Seqs + Sngs

The 9gb HD is recommendable plus fast as fvck.
But I think I'll switch to the computer for storage too, it's just more accessable.
Do you us Translator Lampdog ?
