time stretch question

how come when you time stretch a chop that ratio thing changes from 100.00%

i've been retyping 100.00% everytime i time stretch the next chop but does it matter or what...i use bpm. just curious. i've always wondered but i've looked into it.

You don't understand what the percentage means. 100% means that the sample plays at 100% of it's original tempo/time. When lower it, say to 95%, the tempo speeds up and only takes 95% of the time it took the original sample to play from start to finish. If you go all the way down to 50%, the new sample will play at half the time it took the original sample. Example, orignial sample is 5 seconds long at 100%. At 50%, that sample would take only 2.5 seconds from start to finish. Get it? Increasing the percentage slows the sample down and increases sample play time!

ok i get that...but why does it change after i do the timestretch using bpm.

like when i timestretch my first sound i dont even touch the ratio thing i click on bpm and change the tempo there.

when i go to do the same to another sound the percentage in the ratio area is changed on its own. without me ever having adjusted it in the first place. i dont use the ratio percentage to timestretch, i use bpm.

It remembers what you percentage you did last time I guess. Don;t worry and just enter yo BPM.

No, its just that when you change the sample with the BPM, it still shows you how much u changed the sample in percentage. Even if you didn't use the percentage function the mp shows you, so that when you go to change the next sample you know the percentage already, and you can just adjust the next sample to that percentage. I find it easier to change the speed of a sample by using the percentage, its more accurate because your not guessing the original tempo.
