Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

HELLO EVERYONE.. im a newb to the chopping scene. im more of an original beat maker but ive always wanted to make sampled beats..I just bought the 2000xl se2 orange edition
I would appreciate if it someone would explain to me the way they lay down some clean chops as boon doc does. He shows his chops but does not show how he got them to sound so nice.

When i record something off a record I have the 10 second record on.. Should i play it for longer? Not trying to make any loops...

Also should i turn up the speed on the turntable or change the pitch inside the mpc?

Im guessing the maximum zones is 16? Is it?

I record chops and they sound too much like the orignial piece just trying to play differently over the beat..

Lastly.. how about the time stretch can someone give me a simple definition of what that will do to a sample..

I know its alot of questions im asking.. but like i said id really appreciate someone trying to help out. THANKS

If I was a betting man, I'd guess you could learn a lot from Youtube.com 2kxl videos. since you already found boon on there.

plus boon has a 1k. sounds totally different

Tips:

Shift4
shift5
shift6
shift7

in that order.

looks like you already know about zoning so u just have to experiment

you just need to get familiar with the wave on the screen and where to make your chops.

i speed up or slow down the samples in the mpc because i dont always sample from the turntable.

and i tend to bpm match instead of timestretch. i only use timestretch if the sample is too slow or too fast for me to use bpm match and i want a certain tempo.

^dont beleive the hype theyre really not different. if you want to chop like boon doc it is all right there. he just takes a sample which is a 2 bar loop (8 beats long) and chops them into 16 zones. which means he has half of a beat chops. then play them to this rhythem to your beat... 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and ect. you can mix the pad order up which is where you get a diferent sound from the original sample.

ya i dont know why he said 1k sound totally different.

i think there is a slight diff between the newer and classic models but not something you would notice off the sound on a youtube clip. but it is easier to chop on a 1k if your too lazy to do it manual. i dont really trust the mpc to chop as precisely as doing it manually, but i've never chopped on a 1k so who knows.

and chopping each beat in half is something i've never tried. i just mastered the 16 beat zone chopping not too long ago. sometimes i'll silence or cut off a certain part of an individual beat but i've never done so with an entire 8 beat sample. imma have to look into that.
