2000xl RAM question

sorry for asking a question that has probably been asked on here a thousand times already. But I found a guy who is going to repair my pad on my 2K and he also offered to install more memory in it as well.
What kind of memory will i need to max it out to 32MB?
What brand? How much does memory typically cost? etc....

just found some memory for sale on mpc.stuff for 39.99

"32mb memory expansion for 2000xl".....is this a cool place to order stuff from?
I mean do they have quality, reliable stuff that wont give you problems or break down on you?

i got my 32mb off of ebay for less than $3. dont look for ram for a MPC they'll try to kill you with the price. do a search for edo ram, you should be able to find something.

It's the same old style edo fast page ram 70ns or faster that was used w/ Pentium 2's.

Look for 72pin PII ram. It's the same ram.

Same ram is also used in all Korg Triton's, ASR X/X Pro in case you run across it somewhere.

It's the same old style edo fast page ram 70ns or faster that was used w/ Pentium 2's.



72 pin 70ns-60ns RAM is for 386/486/Pentium style computers.

168 pin SDRAM (PC100mhz or PC-133Mhz) is for Pentium 2-3 Computers.

just a headsup for those that have an old PC in the garage.

But you should use 2 of the same brand. Sometimes it cause problems when you use 2 different brands.

Back to the topic:
I was able to use one 32MB 72pin stick in my MPC2000XL it works great, so you don't necessarily have to get 2x 16MG chips. Although whatever is cheapest: go with that. Saving the extra slot doesn't mean **ck since you can't throw in more than 32MB anyways.

But you are right, I took that ram out of old computers I used to work with back in the day and I had saved that ram.
I had mountains of sticks of it for the asr x pro and triton classic I had at the time. When I bought the 2kxl I already had the ram to max it out. I still got 486 ram laying around for my asr10 I've never used.

Well regardless, You give an informed, Experienced Opinion on whatever the Question is.

Regardless if I/someone/not everybody agrees with it, you usually make informed statements, and I can appreciate that.

follow-up...

I just bought my Gold 32MB upgrade on eBAy from this guy:

My MPC was very happy with this upgrade. The guy even threw in a free sample CD with like 20,000 wav files, with sample sets from the MPC-60, 2000, 3000, and MPC 4000 on it.


Great buy for $25.
