MPC with Cubase

I have an MPC2000 and I want to use my MPC as the main sequencer, and Cubase SX for my softsynths. Does anyone know how to connection should be. I read the manual but it was a little confusing so I want to be sure I have it right. thanks.

I have:
2496 soundcard
MPC 2000
Cubase SX
Midisport 2X2
midi controller

As long as you are connected right you should have no problem sending midi from the MPC to Cubase. It will be a case of going through the Cubase manual, & maybe a Cubase forum, to find out how to set that up correctly.

Are you wanting the MPC to actually play your Cubase instruments, or do you just want Cubase synced to the MPC with the MPC as a master?

I use Logic because I prefer it for writing music & arranging long samples, but the MPC is much better for programming beats. I slave the MPC to Logic, but it should work the same the other way too.

thanks for your reply. What I want is to be able to use record/play/stop on my MPC to control my softsynths that I play on my midi-controller. I would like all of the sound to also be recorded in Cubase so I can edit it later. I also want to be able to be able to play my drum sounds on the MPC itself.

mpc's audio-out ------> soundcard audio-in
mpc's midi-out A ------> soundcard midi-in
keyboard midi-out ------> mpc midi-in

Add a new audio track to your cubase project, and arm it to record (press the monitor button if you want to hear it too)
Add a new miditrack and set the output to the softsynth. Set the midi input to your soundcrad's input, and select channel 1 in the track inspector.
Open the Cubase sync dialog and set it to recieve Midi Time Code (MTC) at 25fps. Set it to recieve MMC as well.
Open the mpc's sync screen (shift-9) and set ti to send MTC at 25fps and MMC.
Use the same bpm on your mpc and cubase project.
Start building the beat on your mpc, you should hear it trough your computer.
Switch to a new track on your mpc, and set it to midi-A 1. Playing a note on your keyboard should now trigger the softsynth. you can record what you play in the mpc. If you want to tranfer the miditrack to cubase, you can arm the miditrack to record, or transfer it with a floppy/zip.

So you are wanting to use the tape machine-style transport controls on the MPC to do the same job on Cubase. You might find just sending Midi Clock does the trick & you don't need to worry about Midi Time Code or Midi Machine Code.

Midi Time code and MMC works best with Cubase.

Is it possible to set up a module triggered by a controller keyboard to run through the mpc as a slave and then through cubase. Could cubase save the info and programs from the module. Holla.

aces.......I think the basic midi connection you are describing is:

controller keyboard -> MPC -> module -> computer
& as long as the current track on the MPC is set to the module's midi channel the keyboard will play the module.

You might want the computer sending midi back to the module so you would need some midi merge box if the module doesn't have 2 midi ins.

You might want to use the MPC's second midi out to go direct to the computer too.

As long as you can do a midi dump of program info from the module then you can send it to the computer. You can even send it the MPC. That is something you need to check in the module's manual.

thanks for your reply! exactly what I needed. Just wanted to see if you can go into a little more detail on the Cubase sync setup. I have 2496 soundcard, midiman 2X2, midi controller and of course Cubase-MPC2000.

yo thanks featherboy, thats perfect. I got a Proteus 1 and 2 but i dont think i can dump midi with it. I'm thinkin bout coppin a 2000. Alright thanks.
