Bought a CF Drive and it works great but.....

I broke down and copped a cf drive from MPC Stuff dot com
Over buying it from SCSI for Samplers
Mainly because of MPC Stuff's youtube tutorial pages
which made things very clean and clear
Also SCSI for samplers got testy with me asking
to many questions sorry lads the customer is always right
first rule of business

Anyway
SCSI for samplers looks like a fine company
and I endorse people buying from them

So onto my problem
The main reason I copped this cf drive
is to back up all my zips and floppys
and update all my old beats to cf
The thing I did not factor on was
the fact that a zip drive could not be dazee chained
So I emailed MPC Stuff and promptly they wrote me
back what I needed to do
was cop a usb zip drive and a usb cf reader
I had both so I hooked them up and my Mac
is able to read both
and I am able to transfer files to the cf card
however
the most annoying thing happens
I title My files with pretty long names
BufBreak1-GTR.snd for example
when transfering
the title gets cut
and the only way I could find to correct this problem
was to try and open the prgm file from the cf card
and skip all the snds
writing down with a pen and pad there full titles
and then going back on my computer and renaming them all
This way the pgm file see's them and the program is loaded
But the thing that is driving me nuts
is that some files just wont copy

Does anyone know of any solution to this problem?

Do I need Pgm maker?
how can I get it for MAC OSX Tiger
Please let me know

As far as new beats I have a stack of records sitting by my MPC
and all the pgm's I make from these records will go direct to cf card
why did I wait so long
what a great tool this is for any MPC 2000 USER !

Sorry for bringing up a topic that has been discussed before
but I did add my little review consumer reports isht to this so its

So this is what I am thinking
Im thinking Im gonna have to re connect
my old zip drive
to the MPC 2000 and load all my zips in one by one
and go and rename all the snd files with smaller titles
and then save over all the pgm files
and then I will be able to transfer them

Man
this year more than ever I learned
that being sloppy in my youth
was really a bad thing to do
I am paying for it the hard way
But
I think after this I finally learned what not to do
Only Took 17 years

What kind of CF drive do you have? i have a spyrus mcdisk and i was able to daisy it with a regular zip. the card reader was at the end of the chain i think.

but MPC stuff said the easiest thing to do
would be to transfer files via a usb zip drive hooked
up to my computer and a cf card reader
The problem I ran into as I said was
the titles of the files are being cut off
I am in the process of loading all my zip disks
and renaming files to be 8 letters or less
The problem I am having now
is how do I rename all sound files
and then get the aps file to recognize the newly named files?

Do I load and aps file
then rename all the sound files via the program window?
and then replace the aps file
The first problem I had is the aps file is loner than 8 letters
maybe it will still load

anyone ever go through this madness?

This is a big tip for any novice with the MPC 2000
Name your files neat and clean and 8 letters or less
cause you will regret it someday
I have been learning the hard way the past year
that not keeping a good file system on any computer
is a great way to make double work for yourself in the future

The one plus side of all this
is that it is forcing me to clean up all kits
I have a lot of kits where sounds need to be cleaned up
re chopped etc
so this is giving me a chance to do that

Also just downloaded RS-16X
I am wondering if anyone with a 2000 was
ever exactly where I am now
Upgraded to a cf drive trying to back up zips
to cf and used RS-16X to do that or some other method
I know at the end of 2009 all this work will be worth it

One of the biggest problems with my beats
people always tell me is there not chopped right
after this complete overhaul that will not be the case

Ok I am answering my own question here
Anyone who finds them self in the situation I am in
and having to rename all the files on your zip disks
to 8 letter files
Here is the process to do it
so you do not mess up your pgm or aps files
that when you try and load them they are looking
for the old names and you basically renamed your beats out of existence

the process in steps

1. Load an aps file
2. On a piece of paper write down the name of every file assigned to every pad
in all banks (this way in case you screw up and have to revert back to the old name you know its name and exactly what pad it was on)
3.Now you begin renaming your files by opening program screen
hitting pad one then opening trim screen open window rename file
You do this for every pad
then when you are done and every file now has a shorter name
4.You goto save and save all prgms and snds
it will ask if you want to replace existing YES hit the replace button
Then when you re open it
You can rename the aps file to be shorter named as well


If anyone has any suggestions ton make this process even easier
add on or edit these steps
but to me this is the best method to correct lazy filing of my youth brain
