Midi up extra pads

Hello all, I have an MPC2000XL and have recently purchased an Alesis Control pad. I purchased the Alesis because the pads can be hit with real drum sticks, helps when doing high hat work, snare rolls etc.

My question is, can I midi up the pad to the MPC and between the two share sounds to record patterns within the MPC? I am thinking this is probably a fairly simple thing to do, but I am not that versed in midi.
