Saving on MPC 2000xl

Since I have been producing I have always sampled all drums, snares, hi hats, bass line, and sample in order to make a complete beat. Then I would just go ahead and record the finished product into my computer thru cooledit without saving anything to the MP.. Obviously this is a completely ridiculous way to go about being a producer. I just got rid of my MPC 500... Wasnt to happy with the stiff pads... Now I have a 2000xl with an internal compact flash. I understand how to do pretty much everything I want to do except saving.. If someone could please give me a full run thru what is the best and most simple ways to save... maintaining an organized 2000xl...

just create a seperate folder for each beat you work on. then in that folder save all pgm and seq. or aps as its known. that will save everything for that beat and keep it seperate from other projects you have. and you can create folders for raw samples and your typical pgm's too. keep it organized. you thank yourself later.

and when it comes time to load.... I just load the aps. file? which should load all samples that are in the song or sequence? does that make sense?

also.... You want to create your pgm after you chop n trim all of your samples correct?

What about if you use a standard program for drums, bass, hi hats, and snares. Does everyone here just save the entire drum kit program over and and over again for each beat. Is it best to just purge unused samples in the drum kit and then save? Purge function in the 2000xl does that to programs right?

To load a beat you will need a program -.PGM or .APS file which will load and save a bunch of .SND files with it. You also need a sequence .MID file or a bunch of sequences arranged into a song .ALL file. I have a 2000 and I usually save 1 .APS and 1 .ALL for all my beats, and that's all I need to load up when I go to work o them again.
