SMPTE Generator/Reader

What does the SMPTE Generator/Reader actually do? Also, I know that the 2kxl can have that efx board added as an option, but if you don't get an mpc with that board that the 2kxl wont be able to handel efx?

SMPTE is a syncing code developed to line up sound on reel-to-reel tape with film. The name comes from something like Society of Motion Picture Technicians & Engineers. It is an alternative system to MIDI if you wanted to sync your MPC to multitrack tape, but not one many people use outside of the film & video industry.

The effects board is the only way to add effects to sounds inside your MPC but you can stick the outputs through any kind of external effects units you want.
