sampling from modules

I want to sample sounds from sound modules such as my planet phatt... kicks , snares etc.. I never tried it but im assuming its stereo outs into the mpc..As a matter of fact i may want to run it thru my mixers for a tighter EQ . how do i go about doing this into my mpc? Thanks

well me personall i wouldnt run my sounds through the mixer. i would go straight to mpc. so the sound is virgin, then i can fu** with it afta me dun sample seen. and yes it is stereo out to stereo in. dunno if you want to sample all your sounds as stereo. personally i use mono for drums and hits. plus there should be some velocity setting on the module, so no matter how hard you strike the key, the output sound is constant, so you have even levels, cause you aint goona strike the keyboard the same all the time, so the velocity will take care of tht. one level basically.

Yes, although the Planet Phatt has stereo outs I'm sure all the drum sounds are mono. There isn't much point in a stereo sample of a kick or a snare & it uses up twice the memory. It might be worth sampling the weedy drums from some basic GeneralMidi sound module through a mixer with extra eq & compression, but I'd get the Planet Phatt sounds raw.... the people who put that sound set together knew what they were doing.....

As for getting the velocity constant you might be able to set that on your master keyboard.

with the planet phatt you'll need a way to trigger the sounds thru midi since you can't do it in the sample window in the mpc.

I wouldn't use a mixer EQ, but I highly recommend using one. All EQs have a "bypass" feature that will allow you to keep the sound "virgin". You can EQ a signal and switch back and forth to compare the dry or "virgin" (don't really like that term) sound to the "wet" one. Always use an EQ man, that way you can develop your ear and discover new things.

Yes...I guess we've been assuming you've got some kind of master keyboard to play the module & you weren't wanting to play it with the MPC's pads..... do you?

I've got the EMU XL-1 turbo module which also has the Mo'Phatt board in it. I can also trigger the sounds from a button on the front of it. I think you can do that with the older Planet Phatt but this feature is fairly exclusive to these EMU modules.
