MPC2000XL Compact Flash Card Reader. NON-HOT SWAP

Requirements:
OS Version 1.2 http://www.akaipro.com/company/media2.p ... 2FVDsCaVQw
Basic Mechanical Skills, enough to remove the existing floppy or zip, and install the new drive.
Phillips head screw driver.

Kit includes:
Compact Flash Card Reader
Power Cable Adapter (For units with Floppy, Zip drive units will not require this)
Ultra IDE Cable
4 Mounting Screws (These screws are pre-installed in the mounting holes of the drive)

THIS DRIVE WILL NOT HOT-SWAP!!!!!! THE MPC MUST BE OFF WHEN INSERTING OR REMOVING THE COMPACT FLASH CARD!!!!

Inserting or removing a card while the MPC is on will cause the machine to freeze with random alpha-numeric characters on the screen,
and will require turning the unit off and back on again for it to resume function. This may damage your Compact Flash Card (And maybe MPC?).

Cost: $60
Continental USA Shipping: included

INTERNATIONAL Shipping: $15-$25
JUST GOT A QUOTE FOR SHIPPING TO FINLAND AT $15, OTHER PLACES MIGHT BE MORE OR LESS I DON'T KNOW
THESE ARE ROUGH NUMBERS TO GIVE YOU AN IDEA. KEEP IN MIND THIS IS 2-3 WEEK DELIVERY, EXPRESS RATES START AT $45 TO FINLAND

UNFORTUNATELY I just had a situation with a shipment to Canada that was subject to international import fees imposed by Canada.

International shipping may be subject to Taxes, Fees, and Brokerage fees imposed by customs in your country.

I cannot be responsible for these fees as I have no way of finding out what they are, if there will be any, and how much.

I strongly recommend that any international buyers research any potential customs fees prior to purchase.

Thanks guys!

NOTE:
LOTS OF CHANGES HAVE TAKEN PLACE WITH THIS DRIVE, MAINLY THE REDESIGNED BRACKET,
NOT PHOTO'D HERE, BUT HAS A LIP SO IT'S A BETTER LOOK AND FIT,
AND PRICING HAS GONE UP DUE TO COSTS OF MANUFACTURING, CABLES, SHIPPING, AND EBAY/PAYPAL FEES.
I've got over $20 just in shipping/ebay/paypal fees alone. Keep that in mind while haggling over the cost.

NICE! Reseller? Where can it be bought? Does it hot swap?

Here's the origional:

http://www.amtron.com/reader/iisdmc.htm

Hmmmm... They look pretty similar don't they?

Tried for 2 years to get them to remanufacture it. No luck. Won't sell the schematics and white papers either.

Meanies

Hey SMC,

I just acquired myself an MPC2000XL non-mcd two days ago. I've been peepin' your posts about the MCD you've created, and I've got to say, I'm impressed! So you only have ten left? I WOULD LIKE TO PURCHASE one if there are any left! Lemme know what I have to do to get one. I am located in the US, Utah to be exact.

Thanks.

if you want to scope a fair price -- if you can sell them at $20 or 30 with card and still make it worth-while, that would be the best way to own your market (and get me to buy another one (for my vs-880))

They still got the Addonics CF reader for $26, but it looks like its on short supply, here:

http://www.provantage.com/addonics-adid ... DDO18R.htm

This one was tried and tested by many in this forum, here:

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=102551&hilit=cf+reader+how+to

<--notes: the Addonics base doesn't mount very easily. I had to drill a few holes to get it to roughly get into place.
2. as you see in the forum above, there's lots of "ifs" and maybes about the CF cards, so if you put yours all together in a package with a tested card, that will probably help some of these cats retire their floppy disks.
3. With a 1 GB card -- especially if you're still using floppy disks, you will probably never need to swap disks. Thus, its not worth-while to pay $80 for the hot-swap option unless you have a phobia about never turning your mpc off, or if you make two copies of everything

If you can make the hot-swap card reader for cheeep, that would be cool too.

If I want a copy of the card, can't I just put the CF card in my CF-USB-reader on my Mac and copy the content? And if I want that content on another CF card can't I just clone a CF card?

The ugly one?

Yes, it's a bit ugly, but not the worst of the SE versions. I can deal with it.

I have this one:

It's really untouched, it feels and looks brand new. Data wheel, buttons, pads, fader, display, everything is super fresh!

There is also this one:

And this one:

I'll get some black pads for it instead of the yellow, but they are out of stock at MPCstuff. Have also thought of replacing the number pad buttons and Open Window button to black ones.

Why do Akai love purple? The MCD version has purple buttons, the 3000LE has purple buttons, and on all those SE models.

Anyway glad to have the XL again, and the looks is not as important as the sound and the working state it's in.

winz wrote:back in the day i copped two of those iisdmc card readers for 15 euros each.

yo deck...
why did you cop a xl when you have got a 3000 limited already?

The 3000LE was to slow for me. I tried to be patient with it for the 2 years I had it because of the dope warm punchy sound and sequencer, but I can't let a piece slow me down that much. And nowadays I make more beats on the SP1200 than on the MPC, so the MPC is used a lot for sampling+chopping+pitching only, and for that it's a headache, and I don't feel I get some reward from the hard work.

So I traded the 3000LE for the clean XL + a Waldorf synth. If the guy I traded with wanted to sell the LE he shall contact me first, but I really think the 3000 was a bit too slow to work with, and I really missed the Track Mute Screen and the loop function in trim mode (for basses) and the fast waveform editing.

The XL was my first MPC, my first love, and I think that the XL has a good sound too, so I'm really having intercourse with the XL now, creaming my pants.

The purple one IS the ugliest SE, haha.
The nicest is the SE3...black and silver..

Personally, I think the orange one is the worst, and the worst looking pads too. I think the SE-3 looks a bit tacky too. I think all of them look pretty wack, but they are kind of rare (500 pr. color?) and it will be super retro in 10-20 years from now!

I'm friggin ticked at Amtron for discontinuing the IISDMC and being unwilling to sell the white papers and schematics. I can get circuit boards made, and the components are cheap, I'da just sourced it to China or Taiwan and had em made cheap but Amtron won't even discuss it.

What I think is funny is that for YEARS they sold it to the public, beige face only, without any description of the MPC2000/2000XL as it now states, on a page still hosted on their sites server, but not linked on the site...... ?????????????

2 things strike me beyond that......

1) They claim the 2000? I didn't think the 2000 would take a card reader....??? Will the 2000XL OS install on a 2000? I've never had one, but IF it would, that'd probably do it, cause the 1.2 OS for the 2000XL is what containes the necessary software updates to adapt an ATAPI IDE interfaced card reader.

2) They sold it for a long time without naming the AKAI's, then a short while later they discontinue it? Why? I know they are the OEM Manufacturer of the drive, maybe they didn't have AKAI's permission to name it as compatible for the AKAI's and AKAI forced them to discontinue or they'd sue? AKAI was the only company that ever had it BLACK Faced..... it's all kind of interesting.

Lamp.... Has anyone tested the one you linked, and have you seen a source to buy it? I think they will only sell to resellers or in bulk, corporate stuff. It looks VERY similar to the IISDMC and I wouldn't be surprised if it worked and hot swapped..... I have yet to get a response from them.

It'll be a couple weeks before I can post these ones of mine, I am awaiting a bidding war to end between a couple shops for making the brackets. Also, Ill have some lag time in getting them, and I am still awaiting the circuit boards, which take usually 5 days to ship, 10 to arrive.

Soon. Promise. I will also pick up the cards I use with them and offer them with a card. I can't guarantee EVERY card will work, the type of interface inside the CF Cards varies. I will try to find out which it is in the ones I use so that you will all know and can look to other cards if wanted/needed. I'm thinking it'll probably be $40 with a 2GB CF card in the US, but I may be able to trim some.... overseas if I can figure it out will prolly be something like $50-55 with a card. can also trim a few buck by going to a 1gb CARD, BUT IT'S ONLY LIKE A $5 difference, oops, unintended caps.

As far as it working in a VS-800 I have no idea. I plan to test it in a Triton, XP-50, and whatever else I can find around with a drive.

I heard someone say the 4K will take a compact flash drive, but I don't see it making a lot of sense, plus isn't the hard drive in the way?

I'll try it in mine regardless, if it'll work, I'll have to look and see if it has a 40 pin header on the board.......

I don't think it will work to fit the O.S. without some minor modifications, because the 2000 has a few physical differences from the XL like the Data Wheel and the Pad Bank and probably some more inside and outside.

But SOMEBODY should freak the 2000/XL O.S. soon! Hey, 60, 3000 and 1000 got new O.S.es so it should be straight forward to do with the 2K too. Wish Akai made the XL error-free before they stopped updating the O.S.

And there is definitely a market for a 2K O.S. if you think of just how many 2Ks that are around the world. Everybody has it, it's everywhere.

Good luck with building them CF drives, If they work out good most of my friends would want one!
