Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By makegandhismile Sun Jan 25, 2009 10:25 pm
Can anyone help me on this? My 2000XL won't go into Midi Time Code mode - meaning that after i change the settings on the Midi/Sync page (i put mode:MTC, frame rate at 30, In:1, receive mmc:off, and sync out settings are all off, out:A) and then hit Play/Start or Play - and it doesnt say "Waiting for Time Code", it just starts playing. It used to work fine now it never goes to the proper mode. Really need help troubleshooting!

Is there a setting that can prevent MTC from engaging? How can i set it back or fix this?

Thanks much in advance,

Hi thanks for replying - not sure what you mean to feed it code - just start it right? - i have it as slave to ProTools. In the past it didnt make a difference whether i started it. When i set the MPC to midi time code mode on midi/sync pg and then went to either main screen or song page and hit Play or PlayStart it would automatically say 'Waiting For Time Code' whether i started Pro Tools or not until i went back to Midi/Sync page and turned it to off.

Now it doesnt engage itself to 'wait for time code' at all even if i try to trigger it from PT or not. Any ideas?

Are you using the same machine as when you saw the message before?

The reason I ask is that the MPC2000 classic shows the "Waiting for time code" message and locks the sequencer until it receives code from your master instrument or Daw.

The MPC2000XL on the other hand, does not show this message and you can still use the sequencer until it receives code, whereupon it starts automatically.
You with me ?

The only other thing I could suggest is that if you have the 2000XL, you may have updated the os since you last used this function. Maybe it was something that was changed.
Either way, if you set the sync controls as you said, your mpc sequencer should start as soon as it receives code from Pro tools.

Edit:Have you checked all the obvious things like,

MIDI cords plugged into out and in the right way around?

Settings on PT sync set right?

Sounds stupid but have you tried resetting all the settings in the mpc? If I can remember correctly it's in the "other" menu, my MPC was acting funny few months ago and after I re-initialized all the settings it was ok

Hi - i just tried reinitializing through the 'other' page and unfortunately no change - it's still not waiting for Midi time code. No idea why? To the first person who replied to my question - i'm using a blue 2000xl - it's been awhile since i used the function but i believe i remember that the XL waits for time code the same way the 2000 did ( i have a (now broken) 2000 too). But mine wont engage either way - when i try to trigger it with PT it doesnt start - nothing seems to make it start.

My mpc doesnt seem to have any technical probs or glitches in it ... just cant figure out what has changed to keep it from working.. Any other ideas anyone has would be greatly appreciated! Or if anyone has a blue 2000XL and wouldnt mind setting theirs to Midi time code just to let me know for sure if it waits automatically - i'd REALLY appreciate that!

Thx,

I tried loading all the past OS's on my 2000XL right back to v.1.10

None of them showed the "waiting for time code" message when in the MTC mode.
Only the classic 2000 does that.
Are you sure you may not be mistaken with the classic 2000?
I think your problem may be elsewhere

You know i just tried switching the MMC Send to ON (Receive: OFF) and now it shows 'Waiting for time code' - it has frozen the sequencer like i was expecting it to do! But it didnt work when i switched only the Receive MMC to ON (Send:off). Then it just started playing immediately when i hit play/playstart. I put both Send and Receive MMC to ON and then it works/ waits for time code when i hit play/playstart.

It seems it would only work if MPC is the master not the slave like what i'm trying to do? this seems very weird to me..

i had a very similar experience. i also have a 2000xl and i also had synced up with Mbox as Master and the xl would say 'waiting for signal' if i pressed Play/Start

i had the xl and PT set to the same bpm and could very nicely add drums to my PT tracks as the xl synced up perfectly with PT, no delay.

fast forward a couple days with no OS or cable changes and the xl no longer says 'waiting for signal' it goes ahead and plays, though it will also be triggered by PT, there are delay issues. and it reads (EXT--external?) in the bpm field on the xl.

did i unwittingly change settings? i thought i had everything the same. i am new to syncing and damn sure confused.
any input/advice?
