Trying to build internal CF reader for 2000 classic, HELP!!!

Yes, all of the computers I currently use are macs that I don't really want to fiddle with for this project. I'm still trying to track down a mouse and keyboard for the PC I have, but I was able to try and plug this contraption into the SCSI port on a PC laptop and it wasn't recognizing anything, so I'm thinking something is wrong with the IDE-SCSI converter or the card reader's ability to interface with it. I'm not sure, once I get the desktop PC working I will know more.


On a side note, I tested the pin out for the Internal ribbon SCSI to External DB25 SCSI adapter and everything is as it should be as per the destructiv SCSI mod. If nothing else, this cheap adapter is a great alternative to the soldering that is required for that mod. It also looks like I can pretty easily fit it into the empty SMPTE slot. I can just connect a cable coming from the SMPTE (Modded to be internal SCSI out) and back into the SCSI external input.

Well, it appears my quest ends here for now. I was able to get the PC up and running, it would recognize the CF reader when plugged in directly to internal IDE on the motherboard, but not when I plugged the entire series of parts into the external LPT1/SCSI port on the back. Could be that I just have a bad IDE->SCSI converter, though I haven't been able to test it by plugging it directly into a SCSI port. I'm not entirely positive that I should be able to plug this in to the LPT port and have it work, though common sense tells me it should be okay. I've done it with SCSI zip drives.

I was even able to track down the ATFWCHG.COM and successfully change my CF card to non-removable, then I put the MPC OS on it. So everything should be cool on that end.

I'm pretty sure that either something is wrong with the IDE->SCSI converter that I ordered, or this setup just simply refuses to work with the ACARD converters. Maybe the Akai converters work better for some reason. My options at this point are as follows:

1. Give up
2. Find a Akai IDE->SCSI converter and try that
3. Find a SCSI CF reader and bypass the conversion.


I'm not trying to spend anymore money on this right now, so it's looking like #1. If anyone would like to reach me in regards to hopefully getting one of these working, I would be happy to invest more time in this project.
