If you purchase the 002 you do not need a separate sound card. The console acts as a mixer/external sound card. The mixer can be used with the software or a stand alone digital mixer. I saw the demo tour when digidesign came to my part of town. If you got the $ cop it. U wont regret it. Your PC must have a Firewire connection though, if not you may have to cop a Firewire pci card.

If you got the funds... I can't reccomend the Dig002 enough!!! You don't need a soundcard.. just make sure you have a firewire input like gambles said. The 8 outs is just a convience thing... I was gonna buy the outs board myself and get a Dig001. Its more of a speed issue than anything you can record 8 tracks into ProTools at once. I'll be fine just muting more of mine while tracking into PT.. then lining them up. Depends on your preference.. I'd say the outs board is a great purchase tho if your gettin an 002.
