mpc2000xl record-ins a/d conversion quality

How does the 2000xl record-ins a/d conversion stack up vs consumer gear out right now? In particular, would you recommend sampling right into the xl or going into some cheap consumer a/d? What are the benefits of each? Ultimately any sample recorded in other gear will go back into the mpc if that makes a difference.
