Internal Zip Drive Problem

Hey guys i just installed an ATAPI Internal Zip drive in to my 2000XL. But when i load it up it's not reconizing the drive . All i am getting in no Floppy device. Do anyhave one any suggestion????????????

I have the same problem someone please help our poor souls

make sure the jumper on the drive is set to master, and then you need to have a zip disk in the drive for anything to be recognized. Did you format the disk? See if you can format it on the MPC.

I have installed an internal iomega zip 750 and im recieving the same "No floppy device" message when im trying to load a disk. But when i connect my zip 100 it recognises it straight away as an ATAPI and allows me to load samples.
Can anyone help me find out what the problem could be?

it is quite possible that the machine doesn't recognise 750 meg drives.. I am not sure so dont quote me on this... but I have a feeling the mpc only can take 100's and 250's... though I have no clue if this is true.

Maybe just use your 100 meg on the mpc and put the 750 in your computer or something.

it will also have trouble recognizing some 250's but im almost positive that the 750 will not work. and yes jumper on master and disk in the drive

ok.. I have seen a 750 run on a few 2000xls which is why i bought it, so im not gona give up that easily. lol
Can a 750 drive only read 750 disks? cos that may be my problem, as i am trying to load a 100MB disk..

Iv solved the problem.. It was set to slave not master!
So, to dispel myths that 750s dont work..... iomega 750MB internal zip drives DO work on the MPC 2000XL! FACT! lol

Ok I had this probelem with my MPC when I got it...
I originaly tried using a IOMEGA ZIP-100 ide drive which my MPC didn't recognise..It was all set up propperly too.
So I got a ZIP250 and this worked perfect! Still use it now
Also make sure you have OS 1.14 installed NOT 2.10 or what ever the later one is as using that OS doesnt always recognise all zip drives, I found this out the hard way hah
Few days ago when I was itching to try it out lol needles to say after installing the os it didn't recognise my zip250 and I had to hunt down my floppy drive lol

I have had some troubles myself, the first hour or so I had my new card reader.

The first time the XL did not recognize the drive was because I had put the drives cable in the floppy socket instead of the Atapi.

The second time I did not get it to work was because I had used the "short" end of the cable in the socket, which even with the "clips" "clicked" on the connector, the connector was really not correctly seated in the socket, only "hovering over" the socket.

When I had installed the drive correctly the XL still didn't recognize it. I had put in a brand new CF-card that was PC formatted from the factory. I formatted the card again in FAT format on my mac, but it still did not work.

But when I inserted my old MPC3000 hybrid formatted and partitioned card, the drive was recognized. Then I realized that there was two different brands on the working and not working cards, so I tried another card by the same manufacturer of the 3000 card (Sandisc), and this card was NOT MPC formatted, and the drive recognized it. My friend has got the other card brand to work with his drive tho', but he has the original drive Akai put in, and I have one CF-only drive from MPCstuff. I'm going to get him to format all my non-working cards for me hoping they will work (I think the cards work, but that they just don't get recognized)

I am trying to picture this... how the hell did you get an IDE cable into a floppy cable socket?

Oh, I'm sorry, It may have been another socket, but it was identical I thought, the cable fit perfectly, or maybe not, because I think I was still using the too short end of the cable so that it actually did only hover above the connector. At least it never felt like it was something wrong, so I think it did not go in.

At least it never felt like it was something wrong, so I think it did not go in.

I guess it doesn't matter now if you got it fixed... it's just that the floppy socket is about 2 inches wide and the IDE(atapi) socket is 2.5 wide or so (quite a size difference)
