ok this is goint to end up being a huge thread because i just uploaded about 60 pics into photobucket,,,so i'll start with one thing at a time....
first let me say thanx for checking it out and being interested.

2nd - you can do this to yours for around 3 hundred(if you want the labels screen printed)

3rd goes to deckdaddy (reason cursor and jog are painted) is because every button on it is painted except (rec) and (overdub) i wanted it clean and new,,and the cursor and jog wheel were that old beat up tan color,,

ps KEEP PARTS ORGANIZED

ok to get started,,,here is about what i started with, minus the painted jog and cursor
Image

im going to go into changing the ccfl first off,,my light was green or blue or something,i couldnt really tell because it was so dim,so i wanted to change it to red(because the whole red scheme was already chosen)

to start,,you want to remove the chassis(top)by removing the four screws on the sides and the 5 screws in the rear

after that, you will notice there are 2 screws that hold the screen in place,if you look in the pic below, you can see i have removed them..
Image

now that you have that done, you will want to remove the bottom(be carefull not to remove the screws that arent holding the bottom in place)there are some screws that are on the bottom but dont actually hold the bottom(they hold the drive)
and then this is what you should have
ps..now that i got this far,i took the quick oppurtunity to max my ram(why not ya know)
Image

ok now that you have the bottom removed, follow the 2 white wires coming from the screen into the mpc to where it connects(view pic)
Image

ok now from here i took a tiny screwdriver and "wisely" disconected the harness..theres a thin piece of plastic that looks to be in the way but you can hold it with your thumb while you work..
Image

ok now that youve got that done, you will want to return it upright and remove the screws holding the (functions side) curcuit board down.like so...
Image

you will notice a ziptie holding the screens wire strip in place,,i cut mine, you can or you dont have to,it just gave me a little more room to work.
Image

next you will want to remove the four screws on the back side of the screen: this is the easy one lol
Image

once inside, you will notice there are four more tiny screws that keep the screen in place.sorry if the pics are blurry,,if you can see right next to my finger where the green is(thats where the tiny screws are)youll see them...
Image

once you remove those four screws, you will then notice there is a metal casing around the screen itself, and there are tabs on the back holding it in place, just bend the tabs back and slide the casing off ,then youll have total access to your screen,be carefull with it as there is fragile parts involved..
Image

and if you look closely you'll see where the ccfl(cold cathode flourecent light) is,,right where those "white wires" were..
notice the paper covering the light, that paper is attached to plexiglass if you turn it over, you can pop the plexiglass piece out of the frame, now you can remove the ccfl
Image

now all i did was went online to a ccfl dealer and purchased 3 (4 inch single ccfl lamps) make sure they are 30m by 100m..i bought uv green and red.
heres what they look like when they are delivered
Image

then with a little work you will get this
Image

now these light come with a harness already on them, just take some wire cutters and cut it off right at the harness...and then cut the screens harness off also,,but leaving 2 to 3 inches of wire on the harness's end so it should look like this.
Image

ok now through expierimentation* i realized that there is niether a negative or a positive side to these wires,,,i hooked them up both ways to justify,,,now youll want some heatshrink tubing to clean things up,,,and just follow pics
Image
Image
Image
Image

ok i realized im out of some pics,i know i took them but i cant seem to find them,,,anyhow ,,youll notice that on the original ccfl in the screen, the wires come out both ends,,,well in the new ones they come out of just the one end, wich makes it pretty convienient, but theres a shield of plastic that you have to cut back in order to get the wires to fit correctly....but there is nothing special you have to do by no means...

and i also suggest,if you are iffy, dont do it!!!!but my screen glows red and its pretty cool,,,,i'll have to post pics of screen later because my cam wont show it for some reason,,gotta wait for the wife ta take the pics,,

any questions-feel free

Nice job but... wouldn't it be much easier makin' a video instead of uploading all these pics? Just a thought.

i went with screen printing and its a pretty expensive "want"
your looking at between 140 and 190
or you could get a decal made
they run around 90

i took my mpc right to the shop and they made a template from it,,,i didnt have to do a thing..

just make sure u take it there before you paint it..
