chopping on the 2000 classic

ok, ima start off by saying im reading the manual right now so u dudes dont attack me lol

im having a little trouble on chopping on my 2000..

the manual says to go to znedit, highlight the chop i want, then press edit, then "ZONE->NEW SAMPLE" and press do it..

so now i have a sound under the name, "sound000z"..

now i go to do another chop on the same sample.. i highlight the piece i want, press edit, then "ZONE->NEW SAMPLE", change the name, lets say to "sound000x" and when i press do it, it says "Name already used"

whats going on?

After you slice, check your samples that are in memory. You might find that, yes, it already exist.
Don't just move on, check those samples in memory first. Basic troubleshooting.

The manual won't tell you they are there, but your eyes on the menu can.

This sounds like changed the name to sound000x, but you simply didn't press ENTER and then DO IT. If you don't press ENTER first it won't save it with the new name you typed.

i've found this video that shows hot to autochop samples on the 2000:

MPC 2000 AUTO CHOP

1. make sure you have your sample selected

2. shift + 6 to open the program menu.

3. in programs hit f2 for parameters.

4. highlight decay and hit open window.

5. change the level to 0 and the start to 100 then close.

6. while in programs change your overlap to "mono" or "note off"

7. go to main screen and hit the sample u want to chop on "velocity" in the 16 levels mode. it's the button right under "full level" to the left of pad 1 then turn on.

8. now u got chops.

9. you can also tweak the chop start time by adjusting the start values.

Not to shyt on the technique at all, but, chops are destructive on mpc's.

You don't have control of all of those chops individually, you only have control over the original
sample data so if you chop they all get affected. If it's velocity then you get
different chops depending on how hard you hit the pads. Not precise enough for serious use imo.
