i've been sampling into the 2000 classic from the 1000 lately

The key point was they said essentially.
Lamp was correcting you because the 4k, 5k and paid JJ OS gives you real Keygroups, not just a Chromatic Spread of a sample.
As far as the cold solder joint, you can check for a for resisitance or you can just take a low watt iron and re-solder the contact points on the pwba for the input.
That's a simply explanantion.
Also there are a ton of things that makes the XL more desirable than the OG 2k beside the Auto Chromatic.
Funny way back when the OG 2k was released we complained to Akai about the brightness of the screen and they said not to worry.
Now look at all the burn-out screens and line damaged screens that are out there.
