Yeap, that one works with the XL but it doesn't work in the classic unless you buy the expensive SCSI-to-IDE adapter.

I just got an XL last week, the price for that cf card reader is cheap, what else will I need to buy to install it?

2kxl only

It should come with the 40pinf data ribbon cable you need (same ribbon as old school desktop hard drive ribbon cables, you can get them at any computer store (40 pin IDE hard drive cable).

And it should come with a power cable (red/black wires) that fits the 2kxl motherboard to the cf drive.

Maybe come back later and let Devontodetroit know how everything went.

There is a jumper on the little motherboar, set it to master/single depending on the maker of the board. Reboot and try both. In the LOAD menu on Os1.14 and OS 1.20 there is a SETUP option, I forget what F key it's under, go there. You'll be able to startup with ATAPI, you'll see ATAPI (your cf reader) once your CF is configured right and your MPC recognizes it. You won't see it if your cables are connected firmly and your mpc just can't see the device. Some sites say use 1.20 but I've been using 1.14 for years and never had a problem with my internal mcd (512mb Lexar cf).
