MPC2000 classic

I recently bought a used MPC2000 classic from guitar center for $250 (bought online). I just wanted to see how it ran and what it sounded like. I figured I could sell it if I didn't like it with minimal loss. I also got pro coverage in case something didn't work. It arrived in pretty good condition. I loaded a few kits and figured out that one of the pads didn't work. Talked to GC and they said I can bring it back or wait 60 days and have it repaired under the warranty. Since I had some time to make a decision, I started playing around with it. Why did I do that......

This MPC is flat out fun and easy to use. I have an MPC3000 with 3.5 O.S, a MV8000 and a host of other gear. Heck I even just scored a MPC3000 LE In near mint condition (screen is dim). But, I just like the simplicity of the 2000. It's easy to use and very sturdy. I do have a s2000 but there is something about the MPC2000.

I'm torn between keeping it (and getting it repaired) or letting it go because I don't really need it. What I will pass along to others is don't sleep on a 2000 classic. I know some would rather have the XL version but a 2000 is solid and I can't see how anyone would be limited by this machine. I was going to buy one back in 98 but a salesman told me the mpc "magic" was just a myth and everything I needed to do I could do in a pc or korg trinity. I wish I hadn't listened because this box inspires me even now.

Damn '98 a salesdude was saying go PC talk about jumping the gun. There were like 5 VST's even worth using back then. I can see a salesmen in that era pushing digi keyboards and workstations though. But yeah you're dead on even the simpler MPC's draw you in with the simplicity and still are very versatile.

Only limits then or now is a small amount of RAM and probably needing some FX from outside the MPC. But that's common with hardware, and today you can have a bunch of plugins if can't afford or have space for a full hardware rack of FX. MPC's will be like old cars, people like will be on discovery channel in 20-40 years rocking them as old folks.

There's a guy here with only a $200-$250 budget looking for a Classic, so if only recouping ends up being your plan on the 2000 he'd probably be interested. We've warned him that eBay sales are tough to get quite that cheap without frazzled LCD's and missing note variation sliders.

Lol that guy happens to be me. It's a 211$ budget and I'll definitely look into this if you decide to sell it. PM me when you make a decision homie!

Lol yeah it's okay. It's a contradictive name for now seeing as I've never even seen one in person, but thanks for referring me to this dude. Hopefully I can get it. How hard is one pad to fix on the old 2000?

There's some hacks in vids here where dudes slice the sheet and do something to restore the contacts better. (On 2500's and 5000's I think) Generally though, buy a whole new sheet. Pretty easy to put on in. The LCD's as you know are the biggest issue on 2000/XL.

If I sold it you wouldn't have to fix . I bought a warranty when I got it. I always do that when I buy used gear if I get it from GC.

And here is a little secret I learned when buying used stuff. eBay is a great place to get stuff from but seldom do you find great deals. I normally buy from the used section of guitar center online. Everyday I go there and do a search for mpc (or whatever else's I am looking for). You can get a great deal if your patient. But even if you pay a little more, you know that if you don't like it they will take it back within60 days. You can even buy a one year warranty in case something goes wrong.

If I were you, I would go a do a search for an mpc now. Come back and tell us what you find. Hope this tip helps but I wouldn't be surprised if this was already known on this board.

I think what may not be well known is that GC will ship the stock between stores or to your home. If I'm reading your post correctly, when you said search.

I was actually combing it earlier and on a 3000 there was a $400 price difference from two stores. The one where the buyer/pricer wrote Roger Linn was $400 more. So some GC's don't even know. and the other 3k was $400 less. And for over a year they have gone way lower on MPC's/ I see 2500's for $699 near mint, I got a minty XL for $400, texture still on the buttons.

Yeah I searched and found one for 300$ in Queens. I'll probably try bidding for another week before I think about that. For how tight my money is right now I'll really need to be making money off this to spend 300$ on it lol. I'll play day n nite if I have to though. I'll keep checking GC.

I would say keep the 2000! I still have my original MPC 2000 from 1997, first beat machine I ever owned. I have never had this machine break down on me at all. The only thing that I had to replace on it was the SCSI drive. Other from that it is in pristine condition. It still gets used along with my 2500.

Still looking but I can spend 250 now. That's if you're willing to sell it lol.

I still have about 6 weeks left on my return policy before I can use the warranty I bought. After that, I will then have to send it to be repaired. Who knows how long that will take. I wouldnt want to sell it now (fixed or nor fixed) because I could simply take it back and recoup every single penny I put into it (cost+tax+warranty=$310).

But even with having 2 MPC3K and the MV, this MPC2KC is growing on me fast. I really like that pads compared to my MPD32 which I will be selling soon.

Just picked up a eb16 and an 8 out for $220! I decided to keep the classic. I just have to wait about 40 days before I can get the one pad that is out fixed under the warranty. I really do love this box.

super fun to use IMO.. I like the wedge shape of the classic too.

Word homie. I got a 2000 w/ the memory upgrade nearly mint condition for 210$. I'm just getting the cables & floppy usb drive then I'ma start making beats. That sucks it takes 40 days to fix though.
