And it works faaaaaantastic!!!
I installed my Zip so was already pretty familiar with the procedure. It's a Microtech PCD 47B (SCSI).
Anyone else interested in doing the same heres a few tips.
1. Find the card reader (not easy since they dont make them anymore!) I found mine buy it now on ebay.com for about $45, after having it shipped over to the UK and customs caught it, it cost me about £60.. Not too bad.
2. Cable - all you need is a standard internal 50pin ribbon style SCSI cable.
3. If you havent done this mod already, you'll need to convert the floppy power connector to a standard 4 pin molex. I did this without any soldering whatso ever. Find yourself a 4 pin molex connector (same connector used to power the HDDs and CD drives in your PC), cut the wires, leaving the black and red.
Slice off the floppy connector on the cable inside your MPC.
Get yourself some of those little white blocks with two screws in, used to connect wires together. Cant remember what they're called but any good electrical retailer should have them. If you cant find them, just use solder and electrical tape.
Join the Red wire and the black wire to the molex connector respectively.
4. Let me disperse a rumour. You do NOT need OS 1.2 to use a SCSI card reader. It works perfectly under 1.14. I cannot vouch for an IDE card reader as I've never tested one.
5. Find yourself a compact flash card. I get mine from www.ebuyer.com - most of which come with free shipping. I ordered the 512mb kingston, it arrived, but when I format it comes up at 997mb!! Oh well, I dont mind an extra 500mb or so for free
All I can think of right now, gotta shoot anyway. If you guys have any questions I dont mind trying to help out. I did take some pictures of the installation but my SD card in my camera freaked out.. If theres a big demand for pics then ill take her apart again.
Peace!
