fast snare hits but the songs under 98bpm's?

you know when you listening to a track and you hear a fast snare roll or whatever you would call it? but the snares seem like dave grohl is playin live but it's a hip hop beat? how do they do that? the tap tempo button doesn't seem to to it fast enough cuz the tempo would be under a 100bpm's say.....do a lot of producers use fast bpm's but the placement of the instruments make it seem like it's slower or something? do they do it manually by hitting it? seems tough, cuz i can never get a great take if i try it manually. if you not getting what i'm sayin i don't blame you, i don't know how to explain it that well. i'll try again if anyone can't understand....

change your timing ... you probably have it set at 16 - change it - and find a speed you like - itll speed up

It's called Swing.

Highlight the timing and hit open window, then adjust the Swing percentage for the snare. Set it to swing either before or after your tap.

swing yea. but i don't think that's it. listen to lil john tracks and u'll see it's like a drum roll only faster than u would get on the 16 or the 32. i swear they gotta be recording in a higher bpm....but it don't sound like it. maybe they smple in a seperate snare roll. it's crazy tho. it's like a new school technique or something, who knows.

its 32's at around 80-85 bpm or 16's at 160 etc

Thats all it is. The hats add the speed...U jus gotta get ur base Bpm right 1st. U making southern style beats at 100 BPM with thos rolls is a lil fast

160 is 80 bpms double time.

aight I got you now. Like bravo said, most of those beats are low BPM with sped up hats.

record your 2-bar sequences as usual using 1/16 quantize (if this is what you use). if you want 32nd-note snares trailing off or leading up to your hits, a good way to go is to slow down the tempo a bit while switching the quantize to 1/32. it may take some practice, but using a variable amount of pressure on the pads you can drop these strings of 32nd notes using note-repeat to make it sound more natural by controlling the velocity. this is just one way to do it...

'doubling up' would just mean using twice the normal quantize rate. don't worry about halving your tempo unless you want 128th notes or better. up to 96th-notes can be programmed manually in step-edit...
