No SCSI Device??? error Why? PCD-47b

My Fellow MPC & Card Reader users:

Just installed the Microtech pcd-47b. It has power, lights up. Not being recognized by the MPC. SCSI works with my external zip on ID 5.
I've moved jumper pins and flipped cables. What else can I do to troubleshoot.

Some of you have been getting "SCSI device not ready" errors, I wish I was getting those...that means the pcd is being recognized.

Any help is really appreciated.

stupid question but are you sure you connected the card reader to the internal scsi port and not the internal IDE port ?

Yeah, I plugged it into the uppermost slot. It says internal SCSI.

I used the pictures posted throughout this forum. Really researched this fully prior to my install...that's why this is bugging me so.

so you know what scsi id you set the card reader to right? What happens if you select that scsi id in the load screen ? Do you get somme error message ?

EDIT: stoopid me you get the no scsi device error right ?

Have you tried all possible scsi id's in the load screen ?

Yeah, I scrolled through them all and each says "No SCSI device" ...then they don't show up at all, just the external zip on ID 5.

Have you checked none of the little pins on the scsi connectors got bent (on the motherboard or the cardreader)?

Do you have a memory card in the corresponding slot?

I could be wrong, but I wouldn't think you would need a card in the slots before it recognizes the drive. Yes, I did have a card in the slot. My zip comes up SCSI not ready when there is no zip in the drive. This error says NO SCSI Device.

BTW...The scsi cable does just sit in the slot on the motherboard loosely even though the fasteners are snapped on both sides. Is this normal? Its just a standard gray 50 pin scsi cable...does that matter?

You need a card in the drive for or else you will get the scsi not ready warning. Double check your jumpers.

Double check that. Make sure the cable is all the way in the slot. Once you push it in all the way the fasteners will snap down.

Thanks...I've tried all of the above and come the the conclusion that the drive is bad. I'm going to try an IDE/ATAPI card reader next.

Try the drive in a PC if possible just to confirm that it doesn't work.

Just installed my IDE/ATAPI card reader in my 2000XL and it works fine now. Thanks to all who tried to help with the SCSI drive.
