Creating a Bass Line

Can anyone explain to me how to punch in my own bass lines?

with what? samples? keyboard?

im saying where are your sounds coming from? are they already on your mpc or do you have a module/synth?

How do you match a sample and the clicking together so the sample is tight? I tried to sample a sound and loop it (2 bars) but when I went to listen to it the sample had a small gap in it. Is there a way I can close that gap to tighten the sample?

This is one way you can do it......

- Press the 16 levels button
- Select the bass sound
- select tuning in the 16 levels window
- select the starting level, default is 4, I usually go with 8
- press do it

this will scale your bass sample across all the pads. now just play the bassline the way you want it.

read up on the manual for real. If you don't have a copy, download it from the AKAI site.

This is what I would do in your situtation

Sample more of the record than you actually need for the loop
Set the pads overlap to Mono
Set the Metronome to sound during playback
Place the sample at 001.01.00 in the sequence
Adjust the tempo so that the sample cuts itself off at the right time

Those are the basic steps I take to find the tempo of sample before I chop.

What's the point of that ? I mean, if you know how you want the loop to sound, what's the difference between chopping the before or after ?

nah man, thats actually a pretty good way to find where to chop it and to find the exact tempo.

Why not just get the loop how you want it to sound and set the tempo so there's no pauses?

My bad... I read the posts wrong... didn't know you were speaking of instrument samples...
