diagnosys - mpc screen

after i installed a card reader my mpc screen is rooted. anyone think it may be a bad connection or dead screen, that black line on the bottom stays there when i tweak the contrast from low to high. it was perfectly healthy before this, i think i may have broken it... and am deeply suicidal.

its still usbale, but it sux.

If it were me i would just keep on keeping on.Maybe get you another screen just in case that one messes up severely.That way at least you'll be prepared to replace it.

I wouldnt just buy a new screen. When the problem started after installing your drive, maybe its something inside the mpc itself. Open it up and look at the cables and connecters etc?
Or send it to get it fixed somewhere...

yeh could be a connection, my mpc is optioned up so i'd have to remove a few things before i can access the rear of the lcd. anybody know somewhere in melbourne, australia that has experience fixing mpc's

Man, your shit looks brand new compared to mine...I leave my MPC on for weeks sometimes...and after a couple of years of this, my screen started getting these lines across it...Now, you can't even make out most of the words on the screen...but, I'm still pumping out 1 or 2 solid beats per day...If you know your MPC, the screen could be blank, and you will still be producing...

Your installed card reader is not properly compatible with your MPC2000XL IDE port.

Removal of the recently fitted card reader and replacment with "a correct /compatible version" will rectify this problem.

I've seen this happen on a few local card reader upgrades where the user has decided they wish to use the MPC2000XL internal IDE port as a host connection for their new drive.

Replacment of the drive with a different type fixes the problem.

Nanoloop, I know you were tossing up about where the best place was to order from... which reader did you end up getting and where from???

i got an addonics ide pcmcia card reader from ebay. not sure of the model number at the moment. ( until i get it back out )
that image is only a slice of what it actual looks like when your pressing buttons and the sequencer is running, its spewing pixels.

Yeah ... I know that ... have seen it before several times.

That is why I wrote what i did ... !

Despite what people say about the ADDONICS ( and some CARRY ) model's, my experience with several tried here "down under" is that they are BAD NEWS for many reasons.

Pull the card reader out and you will notice that your screen goes back to normal. Go on ... try it.

Leaving this card reader in your machine will eventually cause damage to various "shared" circuit stages of your MPC2000XL, assuming it hasn't already.

Please, again ... Pull "this" card reader out, at least for the sanity check of confirming that your machine is in fact still ok ...

yeh i got that sucker out of my machine. thanks for the advice. yeh im sort of near melbourne..... a few hours away down on the surf coast... do u have a recommendation for a particular model i should buy. i copped this current one kinda cheap, so i dont mind the loss.

Cool ... so your screen is ok !!!

I would suggest getting hold of a MICROTECH internal SCSI FLASH model, using the MPC2000XL internal SCSI port and giving the ATAPI port a miss all together.

The reasons for this are many and varied.

One I can think of ?

It is a fact that an MPC2000XL with "any" OS version seems quite happy to work with a SCSI FLASH card reader ... internal or external.

Having said that...

As so many people are using ATAPI models with good results then it might be worth searching these forums "again" and getting hold of the exact same "fully tested and working" model they are using.

i got the same problem now

MPC2000xl worked fine for 2 months after i installed the IDE card reader. It now gives lines on startup, they now disappear after a minute....hopes it stayes that way.

FHL, I'd just fix it now if possible.

hey krux, what the deal with them amtron ide readerrs, they give you any grief????

and for the record the drive i tried and tested failed.

It was an Addonics IDE PCMCIA Card reader.
