MPC freezing when detecting zip drive

When i go to the relevent menu to detect a scsi device (my zip drive)
so that i can load a few samples the mpc just freezes and stays in the wait...... status.

is it the zip drive itself, the mpc?

I am guessing it cant be the cable because i used that to tranfer files from my pc to the zip.

any help would be greatly appreciated, oh and i have a 2000

the files u are trying to transfer aint big files are they? i get the same problem when i try and send big wav samples over to my MPC

what scsi id is the zipdrive set to ? It is a scsi zipdrive right ? And the terminatorswitch on the back of the zipdrive is set to on ?

the only time i have had the wait problem with my mpc is when i had no scsi device hooked up....make sure your scsi cable is secure between both points....also like others said check the termination and id

What the problem most likely is, is that that you have a blown scsi fuse. I had the same problem and thats what the issue was. I got mine fixed at Forat.

na the files are not big, the problem is that the mpc does not recognise that the zip is there.

i am using a iomega 100 zip drive and using the stock cable that came from that to plug in to my mpc, i dont think there is a terminator switch on the back of this zip drive.

i sure hope that it isnt a blown scsi fuse

How do you connect it to your PC ? via a scsi card in your pc ? Are you sure it's a scsi zip drive (the absence of a terminator switch makes me wonder)? What scsi Id is it set to ?

this is the same problem i had
either
a) wrong type of zip drive it needs to have those switches
or
b) SCSI fuse in the MPc is blown

well i am not exactly sure that its is an scsi zip drive it does not have a
terminator switch so i am not exactly sure.
i connected via a the printer port on my pc,
beacuse i dont think i have an scsi card in my pc

please excuse my ignorence....

if it is an scsi fuse, is it very expensive to fix? and where should i go to have a problem like this fixed?. Is it easy to fix?
sorry pulling my hair out here, i heard that the 2000 is notorius for blowing the scsi fuse is this true

Ok first of all it seems like you zip drive is not a scsi drive, so please do not connect it to your MPC. It will not work, and worse it might blow your MPC's scsi fuse which is an expensive reparation.

I bought a cd drive ( scsi ) at a garage sale last month and when I plugged it with my mpc2XL the screen showed a ; error FB4204 or something and after that the whole screen was f@cked up. Turned it off / on ( after disconnecting cd drive ) and it was working fine. I usualy use a 250Mb zip drive, but is there something i gotta change to use a cd drive instead ??...

Does your cdrom drive have a terminator switch ? or a terminator plug ? Is it connected directly to the mpc or in a so-called chain MPC->ZIP->CDROM ?
What is the SCSI id of your MPC ?

my set up is zip to mpc there is no cd rom
scsi ID?
as in a number? type?

Scsi id as in the back of your zip drive has 2 little switches (if it's a scsi zipdrive) one says ID (and should be set to position 6) and one says termination and should be set to on. If your zip drive does not have these switches then it s more ten likely NOT a SCSI zip drive and will NEVER work with an MPC 2k(xl), sad but true.

If you connect it to your PC via the printer port then it is most likely a PARALLEL zip drive and those do NOT work with an MPC2k(xl)
