Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By net3dom Mon May 08, 2006 1:12 am
Well here it is guys, i aint been on here for a little while but i been working on some beats and decided it was time to save them.

as i made them on the 1000 and triton i decided i was gonna record the beats into the 2k. recorder abot 15 different beats, spent time building intros and using the mute to cancel out tracks. Basically using the 2000 as a tape recorder.

any saved all the files 1 song at a time due to the memory limits and transfered the files one by one to the PC.

So next i open up soundforge so that i can edit the beats alittle using the soundforge wave editing facilities.

Up pops the box cannot open the file, so i try another and another. So soundforge dosnt support au files, neither does any of my other bits of software.

From what i gather unlike my 1000 and triton, the 2000xl uses the au format that is not as widely used as we are expected to believe. So basically i just wasted 2 hours recording these beats as i cant even open them on my PC.

Jus another reason why i think the 2kxl users are being neglected and being left behind. Yet another thorn in the productive flow, yet another restraint. Wav files are a lot more supported than AU files and so surekly it would have made sense to have this as the output format for samples as just about every wave editor can read wavs.

Low memory and crappy file format. the more i use it the more i think the 1k superseeds it despite the interface, the internals of the 1000 are superior. shame about the exterior. Anyone else find this an issue or any other 2kxl issues?

Well I don't understand why you went about doing what you did,it just doesn't make sense to me but its seems that your forgeting the XL is older. it saves as .snd file which can be converted to wav if need be with CD xtract

If you had have saved everything as 44khz 16bit wav, you would never have ran into that problem.

All 3 machines can read that wav format.

2kxl can read snd AND wav.

saving to WAV files is a very big plus on the 2kxl

is he talking about the fischer price 1000?

oh dear jackpot the pussy is here again with his bullshit comments. YOu still getting **** in the ass by your daddy and his friends huh.

For the fools talking about dont use it, i use what ever the **** i want to. i work i can afford to buy shit and i can critisise the shit i buy too cause i own it.

Some of you fools love to talk shit like jackpot who thinks his beats are so good yet i aint heard any of them on any rap artists record.

The shit your producing is shit to me but one mans shit is a next mans gold and each to their own.

But anyway your a lil flowers go suck a fat dick Jackass i mean jackpot.

And to lampdog, I plugged the phone out from my mixer to the right in of the 2kxl turned the dial to record from just the right channel (mono) and recorded. I did not exspect the file produced to be saved in a format that my pc was not going to be able to read without finding a program to convert the file with. i know you are trying to be helpful, but perhaps you have misunderstood what i am talking about. I know all machines can open wav files what im talking about is if i create a sample in the 2kxl and then go to the save screen and save a sample it saves it as a .snd file. thats what im talking about. then your saying i have to convert the file to a .wav on the pc. Can you save a file as a wav on the 2kxl lamp?

Oh and one more thing is the software free top convert a .snd file to a pc friendly .wav file cause awave and all the other bits of software that i found on the net are not. So basically what your saying is you find that fair that you have to pay extra to get features that are standard to the newer mpcs right...

The pc integration of the 2kxl is shit and if you dont like what im saying so be it but the fact remains the 2kxl has many short falls. The miky mouse fisher price 1k that everyone likes to diss is quite a capable machine and has some features that make the 2kxl look out dated and thats a fact.

just look at the comparison charts of the models and tell me why the 2kxl is better than the 1k. ill start you all of it has better pads. Why else do you think its better for producing music....

mature comments are much apreciated. immature comments (jackpot espeacially) just show me how **** up some humans are in there head but i suppose the fact that you are being abused by your dad makes you feel angry at the world jackpot. Get help, there agencies dedicated to stop this shit going on, you dont have to be a victim.

Of course you can save sound files as .WAV files on the 2000XL.
Just choose this file type whithin the ´Save` window when the machine asks you whether to save the sound data as a .SND file.
But this works only when saving sound by sound.
Sounds whithin a program will always be saved as .SND files, if they have not been .WAV files before and then loaded into the program.

What are these AU files you all are talking about?

By net3dom Tue May 09, 2006 8:53 pm
yep cause i havent built my desk up nyet so the rack is still in its box as theirs no point in setting it up yet until the studio space is clear but i still want to make music and be able to upload it to my soundclick page, while i am building up the studio room.

So believe me there is a method to my madness.

But as i didnt explain that i can understand why you made your smart comment. I think a lot of people on here actually believe they are clever and make smart mouth comments that when all the facts are known arent so smart. But yeah anyway keep working on the smart mouth material.

I was recording directly into the laptop befor through the miuc jack but then the mic jack on the laptop **** up so that is why i used the 2k to record the tracks one at a time and transfered the files one at a time to the pc. (space issues).

But anyway thats why i am recording into the mpc and not into protools.

peace. any more comments are welcome and would also like to know why the 2k is better than the 1k for those who made that comment. what can the 2k do that the 1k cant cause from my own experience and frome the compparison chart perhaps the question is what the 1k can do that the 2k cant.

how about reading and writing smpte
8 outs
built in fx
scsi communication

just being an all round more 'pro' machine than the 1k when 'fully' expanded

The 1k has built in effects including compresor, You can put a hard drive in it and save contless files on it. Its upgradable to 128mb of ram. you got usb connectivity no need for scsi, its got 4 outs as standard plus 2 stereo outs and a head phone out. plus digital in and out as standard.

Ok thats one feature lacking on the 1k granted i will accept that as a viable argument.

But everything else mentioned i think the 1k takes care of in a much user friendly way, ie usb connectivity and hard drive and larger memory capacity, these cant be ignored.

I think scsi is a bit old fashion if you think about it, it was a technology available befor usb technology appeard and now with the usb 2 standard things are even better now, a whole lot faster. samples can be transfered back and forth a lot quicker and in a larger quantity and can be stored to an internal hardrive, no need have additional cables and devices. everything in one unit.

so would you say it is anymore difficult or constraining making music on a 1k, i mean is there any feature on the 2kxl that makes beat making better or easier or more flexible?

Thanks for responding though, i am open to descent conversation and hearing your opinions.

Well SMTPE is what u need to get a good sync to tape (or daw), if you are using it in a pro environment. So if thats where u r heading - then it might be useful.

If you just want to make beats in your bedroom, then you'll be better off with the 1k or 2500.
