I recently installed a card reader into my XL and i have not been able to create a new folder on it. I pushed enter and it would not show up on the media card. Although i put the media card into the pc card reader and was able to create folders through that method. Has anyone come across this problems? if so do you have any solutions?

thanks

Did you format on the MPC?

It needs to be Fat/Fat16 formatted. A PC will format at FAT32 by default AFAIK and will cause probs.

It should; that's how I transferred samples to it, backed up my work, and arranged files on it.

...Card will only be read/writable between both machines if formatted under 1.20.

Or you could as Maxlifo said, format it on your computer using the fat16 format and then it's also read/writeable on the computer and the mpc even using os 1.14. 8)

Which I learnt last night! I thought i'd killed one of my new 512MB CF cards after I formatted it on the MPC. I had to stick it in my camera and reformat before the PC recognised it.

Phew.

That is indeed the only way I managed to 'recover' a memory card I accidentally formatted on the MPC, i had to reformat it on my digital camera 'cause my Xp partition would no longer recognise it, never tried to read it on my openBSD machine though. Perhaps we should add this to the useful links thread which nobody seems to read

You were both talking about MPC-formatting.

when you installed the card reader did you make sure it was set to MASTER?

The cf card you are using does it work on the pc ? could you verify on your pc how it is formatted ?

It works fine on the PC cause i have been making PGM's on MPC editor and tranfering them to the XL. When i put the CF card into the USB reader its says its formatted "FAT". I have the card reader set to master.
