What machine are you using: MPC2k classic or XL?

Does it happen on this song or all songs? I've had a few random MPC errors over the years but a reset seemed to bring it back to life.

If it keeps happening try reinstalling the OS. It may have been a corrupt install that's only showing up now. The OSes and installation instructions can be found by googling or searching this site.

If that doesn't work it may be a case of loose or faulty memory. Again, use the search function on this site to get info on how to check/change your memory. Maximum (32meg) memory for the 2kxl series is really cheap and readiily found on ebay.

If neither of these work it could be more sinister: motherboard etc.

1.14 is just fine if you're using CF cards. The only difference I found so far between 1.14 and 1.20 is that 1.20 allows your MPC to format a cf card in fat16. My main gripe with v1.20 is that you can no longer format with multiple partitions.

i thought i read somewhere that lampdog or someone else had said that if you were using a cf card larger than 512 mb it was more stable to use OS 1.20. i got that error a couple of times using my gig and since i upgraded the os its only crashed once, but dunno.

^^I just switched over from 1.14c to 1.20 and it hasen't appered yet....

this happened with my new 2kxl (from ebay) a couple times and i reseated everything inside the box and reset the memory and it went away. akai, when i talked to them, said that it might be a hardware error if it keeps happening. in that case the box would need to be repaired. knock on wood, fingers crossed, etc.

Fellas, I've had the same thing happen to me like 5 times in the last month.

Is it bad ram? Or just a bad CF Card? Should I upgrade the OS?

Specs:
OS: 1.14c
(what's interesting is, if I hit Shift+5 > Shift+F1 > Ver - It tells me I have 1.14c.
BUT, if I go to Shift+8 > Ver - It's says 1.2 ??? So which is it?)
32MB RAM
Verbatim 1GB CF Card

I've done the MEMCHECK which came back fine on all 3 tests.

There must be more tests I can do... right?
