MPC editor

I'm using the MPC editor (still demo) with my 2Kxl,
I'm trying to build an MPC library from the wav.samples in my HD.
everything seems to work until I burn them to floppy disks, cause most of them are unreadable by the MPC.
what I found is that if I rename the wav.files with numbers (example: 000001,000002 etc. instead of kick01 or dry snare) the floppy will be readable by the MPC.
Does it mean that I have to rename 160Gb of samples !?!?!?!?!?!
please help me!

No, not necessarily. The problem is that your samples names cannot exceed 8 characters. This includes spaces. Your MPC will have no problem reading the files once you incorporate this rule. I know because I experienced it myself!

Do a search on the web for CKrename. It is a freeware batch renaming utility that should help you rename several files with ease. I use it religiously..

You may want to update you OS... I never rename my samples, and my MPC2000 no XL truncates the file name for me. I am using v 1.72 on the 2000.

Well my XL truncates my filesnames also. I never change any of the names when I in the lazy mode, but they still come up time after time.

XL takes a file like this:

bassdrumkit1.wav

and make it look like this:

bassdr~1.wav or something to that effect.

MPC editor also renames (truncates) file names. But I think the last update made has added some bugs to the program. I can't play some .snd files anymore after upgrading.

I think it the way the MPC Os reads files.....Cant handle more than 8 characters per file name

MPC EDITOR automatically renames, makes them .snd the files, adjusting for the 8 characters as it goes...!!!

I have the paid up version also and it's great. I still use CKRename though, it's a life saver.

On the contrary, MPC OS can have names longer than 8 characters, but to use those long character names with no problems during sample transfer you must use either:

Have Win 98, WinME OS installed as FAT16.
or
MPC formatted disk *which FAT32 and NTFS hard drives cannot read*
but that MPC ONLY disk will allow longer filenames.. ie. XP, WIN2k, WinNT depending on how they were installed mind you.

i rember reading something on midicase (i think) about this file naming issue, and doesn't just date back to the fact that akai (in the 90's) had a file protocol that was different than microsoft's (big suprise) and this was just kind of grandfathered into the mpc? correct me if im wrong.

in my system (PCpentium1.7, WinXp,Akai Mpc2000Xl Os v.1.14 ) the only problem with the Mpc Editor is when it renames the longname files, my MPC won't read that file, and doesn't recognize the floppy as an MPC formatted. But if I use simple 8 char. names (exe:00000012) the problem never appeared and ev'thing works fine.
I think is a bug of the editor, because I tried to change the floppy drive, and I used different floppies (preformatted with the MPC)

Hey,mister lampdog,is CKrename works for Mac too?

...and,by the way is MPC editor workin' for MAc and the old 2K?
