MY 2000Xl is broke D**k!!!

I turned on my MPC after about 3 weeks of not using it and now I get a "Insert MPC2000XL Disk".
All the led's light up and stay on and when I try to use the card reader and try to load OS 1.2 on it, nothing happens. WTF????
I'm going to put the floppy drive back in and load the OS that way.
I'll keep ya'll posted...

If I don't get it to work... I'm gettin a 2500.

I haven't had a chance to swap out for the floppy drive yet.
I did take a look at the circuit board and found a resistor (R1 in the center of the picture) overheated near the IB-M208P connection slot.



I can try to swap it out but it's hard to read the color bands (tolerance & resistance) on it since it's a little crispy.
It looks like the outside color bands are yellow and gold... but I can't tell if the middle bands where black or brown.
Can anyone verify the colors for me? It may not be the problem but the resistor definitely needs to be changed.

i done know a lot about resistors,but if it is the case, i hope its an easy fix.(i had to do major surgery when i got mine!)yo,i see that 2.5, so i guess your adapters work pretty good. i went with a 3.5 till i tracked down all the 2.5 parts.hopefully ill have them soon.keep us informed on your mp's progress.

im opening mine up tonight. ill get the colors for you.

Naw mate. Still trying to find that damm resistor in my local area.
Also I've been busy as h3ll at work. I'll let ya'll know when it's up.

I'm not sure what the purpose of the resistor is in that circuit, but a 4.7 ohm resistor does not sound like a usable size. Resistors don't usually come in sizes less than 10 ohms. Also, unless that picture you posted is skewed, the 3rd and 4th band are NOT the same color, which means it is not yellow/purple/gold/gold. The 3rd band looks more brown than gold, which would make it a 470 ohm resister +/- 5%, which is a more standard size, although I wouldn't put it past Akai to use something that was non-standard.
