ZIP disk file limit???? Did it happen to anybody yet?

I was making PROGRAMS with MPC Editor. Just drums breaks and their chops and saving all of them onto a ZIP on my pc to use with my MPC2K.

Just before finishing, while extracting a PGM and the SNDs I get an error repost saying that I cannot save any more files onto the ZIP. The files were like 30+MB and the files that were already saved onto it were 512 files.

Has this happened to anybody yet?

If you ask me about formatting, Ive formatted this disk on the mpc2k before saving files on it.

I will use a 2nd ZIP disk to put the rest of my stuff on it.

Does anybody know if this will work: I format a ZIP disk with partitions and then LOAD from the unpartitioned ZIPs and SAVE on the partitions.

Any help would be apreciated.

format the zip disk on your pc not on the mpc2000 format to either FAT 32 OR FAT 16 IM NOT EXACTLY SURE WHICH ONE TO TEST AFTER FORMATING ON YOUR COMPUTER PUT THE ZIP IN THE MPC 2000 AND IT SHOULD READ ''PC'' IN THE DISK TYPE ON THE LOAD MENU SCREEN....IF IT DOES PUT IT BACK IN YOUR PC AND CHECK THE PROPERTIES ON THE ZIP DISK TO SEE HOW MANY MEGA BYTES ARE FREE ..........I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM MAINLY WHEN USING MACINTOSH PRE FORMATED ZIP DISKS . WINDOWS CANT READ THE FILE SYSTEM SO IT HAS TROUBLE ERASING AND PROPERLY ACOUNTING THE CORRECT STORAGE SPACE OF THE DISK.

I dont have a problem with storage space. Its just that I cant save more than 512 files on the ZIP.
I will format on the PC and see what happenes.

I've seen it happening again on my 2kxl. I guess there is an overall file name limit that can be saved on all folders, something like the 8 character limit.

Once, I've saved something like 1000 different drum samples on a CF card and while the MPC could read them, when I changed something it immediately, crashed saying the same message.

Hmmm well if i format a ZIP on the mpc2k and create partitions on it, will I have a file limit on each partiiton?
IF the file limit on each partition is 512 files thats very convinient since 512 files X 10 partitions = 5120 files

Well i just formatted a zip disk on the PC using FAT32 and it still sais that FILES ARE TOO MANY.

So I dont get it, do zip files have this limit in general?

Any way to get around this?

Well, I guess that the classic has an overall file limit it can read, regardless how many files are actually inside the zip disk. Have you tried to just make a huge disk and then just load files from it? I guess problems are created when you try to manipulate a file inside such a disk.

So youre saying that if I make like 4 partitions i can have 512 files on each partition?

Since a 2kxl can use folders (2k=only partitions) a 2kxl can use folders and not have that limit on folders.

The root drive limit is 512 entries for fat/fat16 format though.

Nah because the PC doesn't know how to read akai formatted disk.

Ive tried it but a PC only reads PAARTITION A of the disk.

What I do now is this: When I want to transfer wavs from my PC to my MPC2k I save them on a ZIP 100MB (no partitions) and when I save up to 512 files I go for the next zip. Then format a ZIP in partitions and then load the pgms and snds from ZIP1 to and save to Partition A (on new zip) and ZIP2 to partition B and so on. That way I save ZIP disk space and have more than 512 files on a ZIP. It is inda bad though that a PC wont read partitions.

I got another question though: I want to format a zip on the mpc2k (no partitions) and with mpc editor export as mpc3000. Will the mpc3000 read the disk?
