32MB enough for composing/production (MORE THAN BEATS!) ???

anyway the debate was so often here.. i dont want to start again
but i heared both sides and there is no other way choosing one of both and trying the workflow on it

i dont like very much that pads are as well funtion-menue buttons and suchand i heared several ppl complaining
about the new ones who had the old ones and tried nu...

i only had chance to try the 500 but i never had an XL in my hands, and beside other details i PLUS is that it has dedicated buttons for everything

i think the overall feeling will be better

and the sound is not 1:1 like with the new wich i could archive with my computer as well but colours a bit

what is so wrong about all this?

i anyway will ONLY go for a Card reader 8 out XL so i am not very limited ..beside some features i prolly would never dig and use

A 2kxl is a fine machine if it fits your style of production. At the end of the day it is you who works with the machine. Personally I would not buy a 2kxl if I had to buy an MPC nowadays, I would probably go with a 1k with the new pads. and a built in harddisk. Then again my maxed out 2kxl with card reader is a great machine that fits my needs. I won't trade it in for any other mpc unless it breaks down and the repair costs are too high.

32mb is more than adequate for all but the most complex programs and compositions in my opinion.

Most of my beats are just 4 bar loops and end up being <2mb but i turn them into entire tracks with different sequences etc.

Using external stuff for bass, synth whatever - its midi so it doesn't take up any ram so yes, this works fine on an xl.

My reasons for an xl over a 1000: better pads, build quality, sound, 8 outs and also just generally being an awesome chunk of beige goodness

no offence lamp but those special editions look like they just escaped from a 60s acid party

with new pads and HDD... they complex way i wanna use it including resampling just totaly made the idea of getting the XL abstract.... soundwise i have good dj mixer (fine eq) + valve EQ + Tape+ lots of plugins.... just really doesnt matter the little sound difference between the akais i guess

that was a crazy weekend but now i am pretty sure!

i understand exactly what you want to do. make your drum breaks and then play vsti's. then records the played vst tracks back into the mpc as audio to play directly on the mpc. then use all that to do live performance work. were clear so far right? the 1k will much better suite what you want to do mainly due to the extra ram.

Can someone explain the reasoning for the desire to do things like this?

if you cant take your daw to a show it still gives you live control over your whole song from just the mpc. i personally just have my dj play my set from a laptop and he spins vinyl over the top while we spit rymes. hell if i could afford an instant replay i wouldnt even use a laptop. but some people use the mpc as a performance tool and this keeps it all in the box.

Ah yeah performance. I would invest in a laptop before I started thinking about a drum machine's RAM issues.

why i still would like to sample into the mpc some melodies i played from other midi sound sources?
because i can arrange dem in the mpc in different manners together than in logic
i very much like the way how with that machine i can play a whole arrangement (decide where to have breaks,stops,specials etc) while playing that instinctly with my fingers.... the body directly connected to the sequencer
not the mouse and pop up screens between it

ion in that video you posted the only thing being "recorded" into the mpc is the midi information from the keyboard which does not take up a lot of memory. the only sound that actually seems to come out of the mpc is the drum pattern he records after the messing with the keyboard the first time. and drums for the most part will not take up a lot of memory. unless you load a whole bunch of them which is unlikely.

when he hits play on the mpc the keyboard sound is playing off the keyboard based on the midi information that was recorded into the mpc which is now being sent back to the keyboard.

but either way if this is what you are trying to do on an XL. yes its possible.
