I dont know much about the original 2000. Ive had the 2k for about 7 years now and im still learning new stuff on it!
But i assume that the 2000 has the basics, that is everything you would need to up and sample and make a beat in no time.
Do you have a turntable? A cd player? a tape player? to use as your external sample source?
If not, i'd suggest getting your hands on a turntable...just something cheap and basic to get your music going.

I'm just going to lay away a 1000, keep the classic. I'll blow out the 2k on 8 sides. Connect the scsi to the 1000 so I can use it to relay and edit samples back and forth, program more efficiently, and to upload and transport. The Class will be my sample and output sound monster... sound good?

^^^Imo, from what you just said, you REALLY need to look into an SP303 or 404. I did the same thing as what you are talking about and ended up returning the 1000 and buying an SP303 (best gear choice Ive ever made)!! The sp can store your completed tracks from the MPC as loops for taking on the road to spit rhymes to. It will also add decent effects (not the isht ones in the 1000) and resampling into your setup. The sequencer on it isnt great, but it works as a decent "scratch pad" for ideas on the fly.

If you are one of those cats that need a name to cosign on it, Madlib did the majority of Madvilliany on an SP303 in a hotel room in Brasil.....

Pretty sure that won't work. You could trigger sounds from your classic with your 1000 as the sequencer using a Midi cable though.

I went to Rock and Soul on 35th, than Armens on 30th. I saw and messed with the MPC 1000 and R&S, seen some cheap FX boards, got an idea of the equipment I'm going to purchase. Went over to Armens the certified akai guy with refurbished machines stocked to the celing, and told him to beat R&S price which was 900 he'll probably drop it to 800 and he wants my 2k he said I don't need it if I get a 1k. The 1k will be with JJ OS and the new pads.

while the 1000 with JJOS might be more advanced... dont let a salesmen tell you what you need. You might just regret dumping the classic 2000.
