week ago i take my classic downstairs so i could do some experiments with it at same time i look some soap-operas from TV. (with my skills it's more experimenting than composing)

So i take my zip drive and connected to the 2000. Directly, with that original iomega cable. ("diamond"-marking at the end of the cable and "zip" at the other end).
I have used MPC and that zip-drive together before. Somehow this setup didn't work anymore. MPC freezes and gave this "wait"-message. I was quite sure that fuse or drive was blown.

Today i made a test again and put external CD-drive between MPC and zip. Because CD has those Centronics-SCSI-connectors, i must change SCSI-cables to the different ones than original.
Result was that MPC recognizes the ZIP (and of course the CD).

Can't remember, have i ever used zip alone with mpc or has there been cd always in the chain also.

wow. I have tried to put the cd drive at the end of the chain, and i tried the cd drive alone without the zip, but i never tried to put the cd drive in the middle of the chain, with the zip at the end. I am trying this right now man.

EDIT- cant do it because i dont have the proper scsi cables, but i will get what i need and try this out

my scsi CD rom drive has 2 "big" connector inputs (im assuming 50 pin). I have 1 "regular" scsi cable that fits to the back of the zip drive and to the back of the mpc (im assuming this is 25 pin) and i have 1 "big" to "regular" (i guess this would be 50 pin to 25 pin) therefor i cant set it up this way you just mentioned until i get some other cables.

basically i would need 2 - 50 pin to 25 pin scsi cables and 1 - 25 pin to 25 pin cables but i only have one of each. I will get the other cable and see if this works

thanks man

Good luck

The reason for trying CD between zip and MPC was that only 25pin to 25pin cables i have are those iomega-cables.
And i had some faint thought that these iomega-scsi-cables are not "standard".
thats why there is different markings at end of the cables.
BUT i may be wrong about this and hope that someone who has used iomega cable succesfully directly between MPC and zip give some info.

So i had 25pin to centronics cables and need some kind of adapter between those and used cd for that purpose
