^^^I was only 1 year into my mpc, and yes I had 1 back up of EVERY floppy I saved to...Floppies go bad like crazy, half of my backups were bad too. I kept getting the infamous "disk read error", even on brand new disks, so shake your head all you want.

CF I really don't like it when it comes to my music because the card is small and flimsy, I like the tuffness of the Zip, though it's bulky It's stern. Sometimes those CF cards reformat and can erase data etc. I don't like them because I don't wanna play around when it comes to music.

i respectfully disagree with everything said here.

durability: you can run over a cf card with a truck and it will still work. a zip would shatter.
random reformat: i've never experienced that nor heard of it. cards dont 'reformat' themselves.

fact: your zips will fail much sooner than a cf card. just look around this forum at how many people have lost all their work from zips failing. search "click of death".

fact: zips are hollow, thin plastic with moving parts. that means it will eventually wear out. cards have no moving parts, so they are silent and durable.

fact: zips are older and not used anymore, except by old technology. cards are a moderb medium and used in many modern devices. you can go to walmart and by a memory card, i dont know if you can buy a zip.

in my opinion, zips are the absolute worst option, and like peter said, hard drives are noisy, prone to fail, etc etc.

this question gets asked almost every other day. browse this forums a bit and you'll see.

I disagree with what you said. I have had my zips for years! I just got a CF not to long ago and it bummed out on me. Plus I don't use Zips all the time, I am mostly in the box. Yesh the HD may be Noisy but it’s not like I need to mix when it’s on. I turn it off, plus I make back ups. Lose data? Hmmmm unless it’s magnetically erased if the hd burns out that doesn’t mean the data is gone. For me I am good and again I said FOR ME! I’m not going to walmart with my zips they are for music production only. My zips have not worn out and are still good! I can go on but no need to. by you saying fact this and fact that, well with my experince it's not a fact!

Just wait, click of death is coming, guaranteed. You've been warned.

^^ amen.
danoc, i appreciate you saying that FOR YOU it works, but everything I stated as fact, IS fact, regardless if it's you or me or anyone.

zips will fail sooner than a card with normal use (i understand this might not be your personal experience, you're lucky for now)
zips are mechanical with moving parts...see above
zips are obsolete technology

those are all very real issues, not a matter of opinion.

just trying to get the word out because i dont want anybody thinking 'cool ive got zips im safe'. they've just proven to be the most unreliable method around today.

and for the record, you're data is NEVER safe. most important thing to know is to back up multiple times on different media.
