First make sure your using the right cables, then make sure your using the right sounds. Try this.. take a mono sound (a hi-hat for example) and make a copy of it. Pan one to the left, and one to the right..it should play correctly.. if it doesn't, it's in your wires. Seperating a sound is no big deal for even the cheapest of cheap mixers. Your problem is in your wires..you have em hook up incorrectly. I had the same problem.. I had a mono RCA adapter going into a stereo RCA amp. Don't buy another mixer for a $2 problem.
Technical problems like these are good because it helps you learn.. there were times when I had problems that took me months to figure out. I'm no pro with engineering, so go to your local guitar center (or what's in your area) and let them know your problem.. they'll get more indepth with it than I can.

So is that what the problem was........ your soundcard changing its settings?

^ yep its my soundcard mixer!!! Man it just changes settings randomly. The left channel was panned in the middle thats why I was hearing both speakers even if I mute the right channel.... LOLOLOL
