yup, works as a stand alone through box with 8 presets.
You can do what I outlined above, just save it as your main preset. I would hook it up with the computer since it doesn't need to be on to use it, and then you can have a preset that routes everything to your computer is you ever want to use that to sequence as well.
Also, only use on sequencer, whatever your main sequencer is. At least one at a time.
And remember that you need the MPC's soft thru set ot On and select a midi channel on a track to use the other modules instead of the MPC's sampler.
