Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By zippertafari Wed Feb 29, 2012 6:39 pm
After slowly reading the manual. I found that many things I wanted to do on my asr-10 I could do quickly...
An updated ASR-10 would be up there on my 'dream list' along with an updated mpc 3000. These are the two bits of kit I know I will never sell.

For me, ASR10 and 2kxl, I will never sell them.

i been thinking about this lately - it's kind of a shame that these manufacturers dont just remake the exact same machines, but with more modern peripherals / specs.

if there were a 2kxl with 24 bit, usb, lots of ram, legit screen - and stop there - keep everything else the exact same (ok it would be nice to do most functions with sequencer running), thatd be awesome.

instead they try and reinvent the wheel over and over again and the real power gets sort of trapped in the past.

i dont even know a software sampler as deep as the ensoniq stuff (school me if yall know).

Now that I think about it, that's almost a 4k.

maaaaaan thats the only one i really consider adding.

but can you edit with the sequencer running?!

that is really the only improvement i could do to the xl - i got the rest covered.

You can use the ASR10 just like any other modern midi kybd/workstation -> samples, keyboard, midi controller, sound module. It even has active line in pass through, plug in your mpc main outs -> ASR10 line in and you can use ASR10 effects on your mpc audio going out of the ASR10 main outs like a 2 channel mixer.

Old mpc's, aren't officially supported either, 4k, 3k, 60, 60ii, 2k, 2kxl........

you can use it as a midi controller? very nice..maybe i should just get one of these instead of just a regular midi controller. how much would you guys say one is worth? cause i see them on ebay for between $500 and $1000.

another question about it though, after you load a sample from a floppy, if you end up loading another after that will the first be stored on there so you can basically just go back and select it, or would you have to take out the floppy each time to load a different sample?

A midi controller with more knobs and sliders would be better, and more up to date.

Any keyboard that has midi can be called a "controller" it's just how MUCH of a controller can it be is the question. You can play triggered keys on a kybd with midi and that alone is enough to call it a "controller". Point is, you want more controllable knobs and sliders in a controller than the ASR10 has to offer, NONE, lol.
An MPK with multiple knobs/sliders would be a better controller, features wise.

asr's/eps's do have aftertouch though, which is nice, and was rare for a while, but seems to be coming back on the newer controllers.

My triton extreme has aftertouch, it's nice to have I guess, I've only used it a few times, not much at all. I'm not the most gifted, lol.

Yeah, I get your point. I just dont really see how much use sliders and knobs are. I mean the midi controller I'm used to using is the m-audio keystation, and all that really has is are pitch and modulation wheels. If I got an ASR10 I feel like I'd be killing 2 birds with 1 stone. Way to leave me hanging on my other questions though guys -_- dont make me act like monsta in the ren section

as for updated machines, that would be sweet as hell. imagine a modernized sp1200? call it the sp2400 or something

??? like every question you've asked has been answered with this one exception...

yes of course you can load up multiple samples...maybe you missed the part where we are peeing our pants about this being probably the most advanced keyboard sampler ever made.

if you really want to know the machine before you go for it, find the manual and read it. you'll have a pretty good idea of what it can and can't do.

yes it would make a good controller keyboard, and it also happens to be a serious sampler - but what lamp is saying is that if you use a computer for production at all it might help to have a controller with more knobs etc so you can control the computer.

 thanks. i just wasnt sure if you guys were saying it was advanced for its time, or still pretty advanced.

I also wanted to know how much you guys think one would be worth. I dont want to end up over paying

The more physical knobs and sliders the more midi cc's you can try and control with whatever gear supports it.

Did I really have to spell that out, even after you already know what the ASR10 physical layout looks like?

No one is leaving you hanging cmon on son?!?

So in this example, you are using it as a DP/4 of sorts?

I was planning on using a beat up ASR10 I have as a MIDI keyboard because of the polyphonic aftertouch, but in the example above it seems I can also use it as an effects processor. Seems like there might be a way to throw a BCR2000 on top of the ASR10 and have everything you could want for a DAW controller with outboard fx.

Thanks! Jxff
