The use of "always on" outboard effects/filters with the MPC

i have two myself and i link them together. check out www.sherman.be and read up on it. there are some samples and the manual is available for download. alot of the functions are midi controlable but the knobs do not output midi...

you have 5 input point. FM, AM (both disortion types) ADSR, AR (timing inputs) and the regular signal input. the advantages of the timing features make it very unique. the brochure gives example of using a drum loop to modulate a sting sample but the possibilities are as endless as you can imagin. you can also control the timing triggers with a keyboard getting fast and low attacks depending on the key pressed instead of using audio to trigger.

in a two FB combination you can get some freaky sounds and each filter has it's own output too for more sound layering options (2 outs on each FB for filter1 and master).

the filters have the widest DB range on the market and actually come with a caution label on the back saying it can produce dangerous levels that will blow speakers

best of all is when you deal with sherman you deal straight with the engineer who designed it and he is always helpful with suggestions and tips.

Thanks man... Let me ask you honestly... I'm either gonna get this or a Tube PRe-Amp for my drums... Which do you think is a better buy... I mean I'm thinkin this can do it and it will add that Analog flavor much in the same way that a Tube will add a certain flavor to your drum sounds...

Any thoughts???

well a filter is alot different from a tube pre amp... the sherman can over drive sounds or have some light subtle coloration... think of the filterbank as a full blown eq with timing capabilities. a tube preamp is not the same thing... some pre amps are very expensive and can achieve amazing clearity in sound but the sherman will not do that for you... and that is by design of course. it's a sound sculpting tool to shape audio into whatever you want.. a tube pre amp can only accent what is already there but does it very well.

depends what you want really.. go for either ;P
