SCSI Zip Drive just arrived. It's noisy. Advice needed.

No doubt, the ability to have folders is a plus on the xl but I don't find it too bad on the 2000. I split most of my MODisks(230MB) in partitions of 10MB (Partitions A to V) which in my case is enough to hold data of ca 3-4 tracks. Yes, it forces me to name the samples correct so I don't overwrite samples that have the same name but on the other hand this is not a bad thing (I like to know where the sample is from so I don't use names like sound001 or kick01 etc)

That pretty much why I either use floppies or a partitioned hard drive with the 2k or the 60.
The partitions pretty much are your folders.
Not the best method but it what you have to go with on those older models.

There's a lot of XLs listed now, and I got a bid on my 8 out card. It's time to sell the 2000.

not the type of drive I ment Like I said, I use 230MB disks. There are a few drives that read/write 128MB disks only and then other drives that read/write 128 to 230 or up to 640MB

I bought them in 2008 for near than nothing (just checked the old ebay mails and realized that I paid not more than 5 EUR for each drive)
I guess prizes are higher today but you might get a good deal if you wait and watch ebay.

If you buy this you'll also need an external SCSI case. You can try to find an empty case but you'll find more and often cheaper ones in the scsi cd section. Also do try to find it in thrift shops, flea market etc you can get these really cheap if you keep your eyes open (to be honest IDK about the prices in the US )
simply replace the cd drive with the MO drive (the mo drive is 3.5 so to fit into the case you'll also need an 3.5 to 5.25 adapter:

Yes this might seem like no fun for some people. It depends on the type of person you are. I really like to wait and look out for stuff to get it cheap and build things together by myself. You probably don't like DIY stuff etc and so this route might not be yours. Then you really should think about getting a XL.

Thanks Peter. I was looking at those earlier, but wasn't sure if there was anything I can do with them. But since I've seen a few good prices, I'll hunt down an external SCSI case and go for it, since I'm very much a DIY guy. I've done tons of repair/replacement/customization on my MPC1000 before I sold it, built a x0xb0x 7 years ago, circuit-bent all kinds of drum machines, speak & spells, and now I want to bend the Akai S-01 and S20. That's gonna be fun!
